Some help to decide :: Which ROO 43mm?

Hey all,

Looking for some help on which 43mm ROO (26420) to go for.
I was offered the black dial from my SA around this time last year but declined (initially tried on the taupe and thought it was a better look and told him I'd like to stick with the taupe). Since then I'm in waiting mode - am told it's gonna happen but not quite sure when.

So with prices declining I am now contemplating again whether to:
  • Get the black ROO from the secondary market (with prices declining I can now get it around 34-36k all in)
  • Wait for the taupe at some point from the boutique but be prepared to fork over close to 48k after tax

Looking for some opinions and ideally also some pics on the wrist to help me decide, also in terms of how different straps look on these pieces. I am not sure I am a fan of leather/black (though I've never seen real life pics), but not sure if taupe/taupe is a daily either (one TRF member had a taupe/grey combo though that looked fantastic)...

Having seen them all last week irl there is an easy answer. Wait for the taupe. By far the best looking and its what you want so be patient and it will show up.

I love the 43 and if nothing new that catches my attention is released between now and fall, I will be deciding between the Taupe or Black SS (from boutique).

I had them both side by side this last week and I am personally leaning toward the taupe. It looks killer on the black rubber and I think it is going to look great on white.

With that said, I am an outdoor person with hobbies that reflect that. If I was a car guy and had a sports car, I would go black dial.

Of course, since I own the taupe, I’m biased. Now, I’m fairly conservative and will usually pick a black or blue dial over other choices. But this is such a unique look that entangled me from the moment I tried it on!

If your SA is telling you they can get you one, I would wait. From your own statements, you obviously prefer it to the black. I would highly recommend waiting it out, especially if you plan to add additional AP’s to the collection.

BTW, this is my favorite shot of the taupe dial. I used this as inspiration during my wait! It’s on the ‘What AP are you wearing thread’ (page 433):

What do you think about the taupe strap on the black dial watch? On the website it looks great.

The black seemed to pull more silver out of the dial (at least under indoor light) and the taupe made the dial look warmer to my eyes. Curious how the dial will look with a white band.

Smoke dials, especially this one, give me a patina kind of feeling. Like smoke stained walls in old bars back in the day. The cutting edge style of the rest of the watch with is chamfers and ceramic give off a cool dichotomy feel. IMHO.

Easy answer is it depends on your goal. If this is the only watch you want then obviously buy it grey and save yourself at least 10k. If your goal is to have a relationship with the brand and obtain multiple pieces then wait for your SA.

OP, where I am, taupes are trading at a discount to retail. Would be good to look into it.

If you are planning to get more pieces from the boutique in long term and able to wait, just talk to them. Otherwise, go grey for the best price of specific model you want, wear it and sell it when you get bored. Taupe is cool and one of my best daily beater.

Thank you so far for all the responses! Please post some more pics with different straps for both so I can make up my mind.

I'm kinda leaning towards the taupe (the dial is just so special), but a $14k difference is hard to swallow...

Rose gold isn't for me, so not an option lol

I’m biased as I have the Smoked Taupe ROO but having seen all the 43’s in person the Taupe is far and away the most compelling version.

On my side I decided to go with the blue version and I do love it a LOT. Worth the wait (apparently that's the combinaison they are receiving the less. Could be fake though...)

The taupe IMO. In person, the dial is way nicer than photos can capture.

Which is retail, not below. I'm sure you wouldn't advise @messikens to cheat on his taxes.

I am not sure it has the versatility I would want in a ROO, but I went and checked out the yellow gold and ceramic 43mm today in person as I had been wanting to see it and one was coming through the boutique.

Gotta be honest, in person, this watch is amazing.

It looks amazing on the website, so I’m sure it’s off the charts in person! How’s the weight? I chose the taupe over grey dial partly because I wanted some heft that steel provides. Is a ceramic case similar in weight to titanium?

Not similar at all. I was completely taken off guard by the weight of it. I didn’t hold it at the same time as a SS 43…but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was actually heavier. It has to be because of the gold case back and maybe the buckle. It was not as light as the Ti.

When you said coming through, did you mean a demo or one that was readily available for purchase? I understand that the older 26420 are pretty easy to get as a first watch. Does the ceramic makes it more difficult to get due to it being a new model and a rare material, or is it easier to get due to its high list price? Thanks.

Another taupe vote, it does look nicer of the two however having previously owned a ceramic bezel 44 I think the steel bezel looks so much better.
I was initially put off owing a steel bezel because I hate scratches, simple solution buy a protective bezel sticker from Styx or luxeamor, gives a scratch resistant and best looking bezel imo
