Daytona Big Red lettering variations
Hi everyone,
Curious if the red "Daytona" on the silver dials are normal to have variations. Below I post 3 pics. As you can see there are two, that sit closer to the subdial, also these two have slight font variation. The other one is taller, closer to the center. Is this ok? Did Rolex have several original dial suppliers back then? Or are any of these "service dials"? Thank you |

Known variations, just like most small differences on Rolex dials through the years, even with modern watches. Those are not service dials, and perhaps from different suppliers or same suppliers who simply made little changes. No one analyzed or cared like we do today.
And note that the color of the so-called silver dials also have variations. Some are actually more of a cream color like below (late '70s), and some are more iridescent silver. |

To add, these variations are in their service dials as well.

Not in line with the subject of the thread but I'm new into vintage Daytonas. I have more knowledge with subs and gmts.
Is this a service insert? The font is smaller Thanks so much in advance . |

Not a service insert. Look at the "S" in "Units." The service inserts have a rounded "S." The originals' "S" is more like a snake, like in your example. The service insert below is all the way to the right.
