Rolex 116613 submariner blues dial questions

Good day and happy Friday!!
I’d like to ask the opinions of you all about the two blue dials.
Enamel dial vs sunburst dial. I’m currently in search for a 116613 bkuesy I like the gold writing on these models vs the newer version with the white writing. But I’m up in the air about the enamel dial vs the sunburst dial. At first I thought I really wanted to enamel dial since it seems more vibrant and matches the bezel better. Also thought that maybe in the distant future it may hold more value since they are harder to find on the secondary market. But the more I look at videos of the sunburst dial it is also very nice and has a different styling about it that does make me reconsider my direction.

It would be nice to hear thoughts members of why you chose one dial over the other. And share some pictures please.

Also if there are any active vendors on here who are selling a 116613lb please let me know. Thanks!!

the flat dial is neat and all, but personally, I've always been a sucker for sunburst

I don't own either, but personally, I prefer the flat (enamel) dial. I like how it matches the bezel. Its rarity is nice little cherry on top.

The Moda group on Facebook has tons members who can source one for you.

The sunburst “pops”. My favourite by far.

The sunburst dial is a 3D delight. If you can actually get to see one for real, preferably in sunlight, you'll know for sure. There's no wrong answer.

Thanks for replying. So hard to decide without really seeing them in person. Yikes

Sunburst is always my favorite, but the choice is ultimately yours. Don't let potential future value influence your decision.

Sunburst is so dynamic and this blue dial (116613b and 126613lb) manages to look good to me under any lighting conditions, which is not the case with all sunburst dials, especially under a strong and direct light source. You'd have to check it out on your wrist to have a better idea of what it's like IRL.

A flat dial on the other hand is a lot less dynamic. Not necessarily a bad thing per se, but between the two I find the flat dial less appealing.

Flat blue for me by a mile. In fact it’s the ONLY one I’d consider. I’m a stickler for aesthetics and while the sunburst dial is beautiful in isolation, the contrast with the flat ceramic bezel is a real design faux pas IMO.

Definitely sunburst for me too. The flat dial is going to be in the minority popularity wise but it has a certain aesthetic to it that the odd person may actually prefer.

The high gloss enamel Smurf blue dial is amazing (I don't understand why people call it flat). It's more of a fun watch in my opinion.
The gold lettering and minute marks are so much easier on the eye. White letters and white gold on a TT like why ????

I think the white lettering and minute marks just look out of place on the new dial. Which will make this one more collectible.

Diamond dial Sub is the best of all

I’ve had both. Sunburst is my favorite. So beautiful. It matches well enough.

I love the sunburst dial. It really plays with the light and appears as different shades of blue and almost black at times. Really beautiful. I also prefer the gold writing.

The flat blue matches the flat blue bezel perfectly as it was supposed to. The sunburst dial was an afterthought and it does not match the blue bezel.

I bought a brand new 116613lb sunburst in 2016.
It took me about 2yrs of daily wear for the denial to come to a head and then I agreed the bezel does not match the dial, in fact the bezel is cartoon blue and is well not suited to the watch at all! I sold it and was happy to see it away.

In my opinion the 5 digit 16613 is the best Blusey, there are many dial colours to choose from (you can find pale, bright, dark, royale blues and purples) and there are variations in blue bezel colours too. Find a nice one and you’ll have the best Blusey.

No longer have this one either!

Sunburst for sure. Don’t let the white lettering scare you. I was not a fan either when it first came out. I had already sold my 11 digit with the gold lettering and was sad once I saw the white lettering. Now I own the 12 series with white lettering and it is absolutely gorgeous. Yes I would prefer if it had gold lettering, but It’s not something I dwell upon.

Good thread on these. I recently learned about the transitional dial years. I actually prefer the 2009-2012 pale blue dial. It does matches the bezel quite nicely.

Well said. Flat blue is classy, sunburst is for bling, fashion watches.
