45 US Patek dealers headed to 32 by end of the year

I am told that Patek will be reducing number of authorized dealers in the US to 32 by the end of the year. Anyone else heard this rumor?

That's nuts! Sure hope my dealer doesn't get the axe .

If true, this will likely hurt those of us lower on the totem pole in the remaining boutiques, as the whales will possibly move to fertile feeding grounds.

I hope it just doesn’t get entirely concentrated in NY LA and Miami or the sort. I would expect ADs that made major investments like separate storefronts are at least a little protected for a few years to amortize those costs.

Sounds like a very similar cull to what the UK has experienced.

I feel most people will be cautious this year and let the cuts happen first (and let the dust settle) before trying to establish or reestablish with a new patek AD. Especially those that already recently lost their AD. Plenty of other interesting brands and pieces to have fun with in the interim.

Hard to believe such a reduction could happen.

Such is the watch world. It will be interesting to see if this is true and which AD's and regions are impacted.

When demand exceeds supply (and I'm not getting into why supply is low), then it makes sense to make an exclusive product even more exclusive by reducing the avenues in which to get one at retail.

They can support the volume with a limited number of stores.

I suspect that ADs will be limited to large urban areas that have a higher percentage of the uber rich (LA, NY, Miami, Dallas, SF, Boston, DC, etc). Some of the very large urban areas may get 2.

When the other poster said that a SA told him that they lose status, and get it back in a few years, I don't doubt it.

If the demand falls precipitously, they will try to find more avenues to sell their products. It would be worth it to spread their coverage.

This isn't GM, where strategy change can affect literally hundreds of thousands of workers, hundreds of millions of dollars, and tens of millions of customers.

A strategy change at Patek is like Stern saying "Well, let's scrap that and do this instead." And then it's done.

I mean it kinda makes sense...in the tri state area alone there's too many options IMHO...in Manhattan alone you can walk 2 blocks and hit up 3 ADs! Grab a taxi and hit up 2 more

I was in Vegas last month at the new Bucherer TimeDome (old Tourneau) and they do not have Patek anymore. I guess that would count as one there!

I was visiting Manhattan earlier this week and on my way back from the VC Flagship dropped into Bucherer and noticed they had hardly anything to sell. They did have a couple nice Mosers though. Watches of Switzerland at Hudson Yards had a much better selection when I dropped in earlier the same day.

I was there over the weekend, and I noticed that they no longer sell JLC. I thought that was interesting. That’s a pretty major brand not have in a boutique that is supposed to have everything. Also, pretty random. Why would they drop or be dropped?

They were pushing those hard when I was there a few weeks ago as well

In this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3Y_C8-_9yQ&t=617s

The guy claims he was told by his NJ AD that they are losing their Patek AD status. He doesn’t say which one, but based on some clues I’m guessing it’s Hartgers in Wyckoff.

Personally, I am putting a freeze on my purchases for the next year and change. Have some great Pateks right now, and want to see how things shake out before I make a push to the next tier. (ie, PCC, split, etc.). Would love to go through my AD, and am not that concerned, but I know a few ADs got the chop that I was not expecting. Fingers crossed!
