Bezel Insert Swap on LV?

Is the only way to change the bezel insert (not the bezel) on a LV by changing the whole bezel? I've seen the instructions for how to do this and I'm not up for that.

I'm hoping there's an easy way to just change the insert. Is there a guide online? I've googled but everything I've seen is about changing the whole bezel.

Thanks!

Just go to an AD and buy the bezel insert and have them do it.If thye wont do it find a watchmaker with a Rolex parts account and have him do it. They will do it right no scratches etc etc

We have a tutorial by Jocke over in our Reference library..

You have to take the entire bezel off to properly get the insert out, but you almost never have to change the entire bezel..........

Thanks! That's what I found when I googled it. Goodness... I don't have the stomach for that. I'll go to a watch pro. :-)

So... I went around to a few watch stores here in NYC and none would swap the bezel insert for me. :-(

Does anyone know someone in the NYC area that would do this kind of work?
Thanks!

Just buy the insert, not the bezel

I have an LV with a black bezel, the AD did it for under $100, here are the pics.

It is very easy to do. And with a nylon pry bar, no need to use masking tape to protect the case:

If you change the bezel, you still won't have the correct dial, the LV has Maxi markers the 16610 does not. Either way if you change one or both your time piece now enters the "counterfiet" catagory which according to Rolex they will not service. In my opinion it's better to either trade/sell your ss Sub or keep it the way it should be. It's a classic the way it is...the LV is a great piece too.

I did it... after 5 months, I bought a new black bezel, and following Jocke's instructions swapped the bezel on my LV.

I have to say - it's pretty gross what's underneath the bezel, but it felt good cleaning all that crud out and putting in a new insert.

Anyway, loving this right now!

Now that would be a great looking watch with the cyclops off the crystal!

Anyone have a LV without the cyclops???

First off a functional retard properly trained can change the bezel on a sub. Do a search, I'm pretty sure there are a couple tutorials. Second, there are several members who regularly swap their bezel to go with their mood or for a change of pace. Third, as far as the watch entering counterfit territory because of a bezel switch is kind of a stretch. It's not like you are changing the movement.

Buy a bezel from someone on trf, like steve m, he seems to be very strong in the parts department. Check a tutorial and change you bezel. There is nothing wrong with a change of pace. Also don't worry about what elitist say about what you want to do to your watch. It's yours.

The only way you will get a genuine Rolex Green bezel is to send it to swap it with them. I have just sent mine to rolex to be fully fitted for the retail price of £35. not worth doing myself

Gee thanks.
But you're right... the hardest part was getting the courage to take a knife to the watch. The bezel popped off really easy and with a little pressure the insert came out. Took a few minutes and that's because i went nuts cleaning. :-)

I would leave it alone--that is why you bought an LV--beacuse it was an LV. If you feel compelled to do it--make sure you don't mess up as it could be a costly mistake!

I went to 2 ADs in the west end of Toronto. One offered to sell and install a black insert; no problem. I didn't get a price though. The other said it was out of the question. It was not the correct part for the watch and he would never consider installing an incorrect part.

Does removing the bezel cause the bezel to be loosen up? I was surprised at how tightly the bezel is fitted to the case on my new LV, it has almost zero play in it. I do have a black insert and was planning on one day changing it out, but I would be hesitant if taking the bezel off causes any premature wear. Thanks for any responses ahead of time.

I'd at least wait until the warranty is expired.

Well, I went the other way (black to green on non-lv) and then went back to just black. Now I have this LV bezel that I paid a lot of money for....
