Two Tone Daytona

Just getting some thoughts on the TT Daytona. I found a white mother of pearl dial, with diamond hour markers for sale around what it was retail. It looks like the white mother of pearl isn't even an option anymore from Rolex. So could this be a collector piece down the road? Or is TT something that no one wants especially in a Daytona?

Stay away. TT is Sub DJ, and GMT only. Daytona doesn't look good in TT especially a diamond dial in my opinion.

If you like the look and can afford it, consider buying it.

If you don't, walk away and keep looking.

Other people's subjective tastes should not matter one jot to you.

TT Daytona is a beautiful watch depending on the configuration. It’ doesn’t get the attention it deserves but is stunning on the wrist. It will never be a collectors piece like other Daytona models but it is the model given away for winning major races so it’s not like it doesn’t have its own place by Rolex. Only buy it if you like the watch. Forget about the price or even if it’s desirable, etc….

TT Daytoan is a good looking watch especially in black / white configuration without dimonds, it looks good on the wrist (better than pics) with a dressier look than steel.

It is an undervalued watch which makes it a good buy for Daytona lovers and watch collectors who are not interested in paying high premium on the steel sibling, it has all the perks (craftsmanship, movement, & status) at half the price. If you buy one at the right price, you might not lose money or even make a few bucks along the way.

I echo that you should buy what you like. With this said, mother of pearl and diamonds on sports watches are not especially popular - nor is the TT Daytona to begin with (you'll note it costs less than a steel one) so from an investment standpoint, I'm not sure I'd go this direction.

All Rolexes are "collectible", however, not all to the same extent.

The TT Daytona, in any form, is not in the highly collectable category. Even the very collectible Paul Newman (real ones, not just colored dials) models are not in the same category as their Stainless siblings.

To say "no one wants a TT Daytona" is wrong, they are very popular, but TT and PM trends seem to go up and down.

Get what you want. The "collectable soon" models are already high priced, there are no sleepers - until they wake up when nobody is looking.

I agree with this. I love the look of the TT Daytona 116503 white dial. I think it looks classic and timeless...sadly though I do not like the new 12 series SS and TT. I finally had a chance to try on a 12 series TT over the weekend and I do not like the new case style (well not new since it has been used by the PM models). The watch just did not look right on the wrist anymore....it lost alot of its charm....it is bigger/boxer...and even though its supposedly thinner, it looked and felt chunker to me. this is of course my thoughts.

I absolutely love mine. I am happy with it and I couldn't really care less about what anyone else things. If they don't like it I really dont care, I am wearing a Daytona and they aren't.

Out of the many watches I have owned and sold, my 116523 TT w/ Blue Arabic Racing dial is likely the one I regret selling the most.

Good advice from forum members and I echo the same. Only buy what you like and expect to enjoy wearing. Try not think ponder about collectability, as that can change.

As long as, you like the timepiece and feel whatever the cost is worth the enjoyment you will receive, then you should be guided by that.

the blue arabic racing dial is my favorite dial! I have been trying to find one of the few 116503s that were produced with that dial...there are handful out there but I think the asking price is too high.

I recently purchased a TT black dial from my local AD and been loving it since. I agree, the TT may not be a HOT item but it is also so underrated. Feels and looks good.

I purchased an unworn T/T Daytona with the White MOP Diamonds Dial from a grey dealer in 2018 at a very good price. The watch was sourced for me as they hadn’t got one in stock. I sold it this year & got around €3,750 more than what I paid for it. It really is a nice watch & has now been discontinued but as with all T/T Rolex’s especially the Daytona they are just not to everyone’s liking.

In my opinion it looks better than a steel/ceramic, it’s much more luxurious and much better value if buying pre owned, TT all the way

I didn't read every reply, but some.

I don't think that watch has a shot in hell of being worth anything significant. It wasn't discontinued because it was selling like hot cakes! The chance of you (or I) getting at retail anything that will be worth some astronomical number (or even increase in value more than a bond) is very low.

Obviously wear what you like. I happen to enjoy some watches that I bet majority would not. If we did a poll here "who likes the watch that the OP posted" I'd bet a nice chunk the great majority would vote "no like".

Very much on my wish list is a TT black dial Daytona. I honestly don’t get why the SS are considered more appealing - for example the ‘Panda’ looks as dull as dishwater to me in comparison.

TT black dial is a beautiful watch! I haven’t seen any pics on rubber b but I bet it’d look every bit as nice as oysterflex for half the price.

Personally, I prefer the black dial since it has a good contrast with the yellow gold and makes the watch looks sharp, sporty, and more luxurious.

My thoughts too.

And although completely & utterly unconnected, given the racing heritage of the Daytona, the black & gold makes me remember the old Tyrrell JPS F1 cars of the ‘70’s.

There, I’ve just given it a nickname - ‘The JPS’!

It will be popular now obviously! lol.
