AP Hong Kong

I’m going to Hong Kong in January and would like to visit the AP House there to have a look around. I understand that there’s two? Plus a couple of boutiques?

Which would be the best one to go to? Im not after a watch of course, just love to experience another House. How far in advance should I book it?

P.S. The person I deal with at AP in the uk has said she’ll arrange it on my behalf.

Thanks

Really doesn't matter which one you go, you are not going to get anything. They will have plenty for you to try on but whatever is available are all "reserved" for mainlanders and there's no way you'll out spend them.

Main boutique is IFC. Of the two Houses it depends which side of the water you are. I slightly prefer the central one but the harbour terrace at the TST K11 one is very cool if you are a visitor to HK.

Are AP Houses now just glorified boutiques? If I remember correctly, the AP House in Central was not designed with sales in mind. People were supposed to go there to drink, play games, try on some watches, and have a good time. I got into the brand after they turned the place into a shop, and I always wonder if they still welcome people to hang around. I want to know what the experience is like. Obviously, I can just ask my SA from my boutique to arrange a visit, but I feel weird just going there and not looking at watches.

As a visitor, K11 AP house for sure. The harbor view is just amazing and there will be watches offering for wearing if you booked in advanced (not for purchased though)

Have your boutique make reservation for you. Maybe at least 2 weeks in advance.

I'd pick the location based on which side of HK you are actually staying on or spending time in to make it convenient.

Thanks everyone

We’re staying at the Cordis. I think we’ll look at K11 for the harbour view.

It’s my mates 40th birthday and he wanted to do something different so I suggested HK - I was due to go there in 2019/20 and had to cancel so been looking forward to this for a while.

He got his first AP a few days ago so it will be lovely to see another AP House. Now to plan our week in HK

I checked out Taiwan boutique when I went there on vacation and they were very accommodating. I think it’s better if you contact them beforehand.

My experience continues to match the initial concept. There’s never any shortage of whisky in the uber premium stocked bar and I always feel welcome.

Have a wonderful time OP.

Having spent 3 years away from the UK in my mid 20’s travelling the World, I married my wife (over 13 years ago now) in HK and had a wonderful few nights in Macau for our honeymoon. My wife’s from Hong Kong so both places have a special place in my heart. My introduction to mechanical watches also stems from time spend in HK, with the absolute abundance of ADs making it a watch nerds Mecca.

Be good to hear more about your trip in due course

Thanks Niki.

Macau was great. Loved seeing the historical Portuguese side of St Paul’s and the square etc. The hotels were very similar to vegas ones in terms of design. Huge difference is there’s a lot more gambling here believe it or not and there’s not any drinking on the casino floors which is very different to vegas.

We went into the AP boutique in the Wynn and had a chat with the manager. He was very pleasant and friendly. I joked that in Europe we say that Asia gets far more AP’s allocated than we do and he laughed and said it’s funny, because in Asia they claim we get more in Europe

I’m sticking with my story though!

Arrived in Hong Kong this morning and staying at the Cordis. I can tell I’m going to love HK, the vibe and atmosphere is amazing and so much to see and do

NB/ being an expert on pastel del nata I can confirm that although the ones in Macau were good (Lord Stows), but the ones in Lisbon are better :-)

Now you're in HK try the Portuguese-style egg tart in Bakehouse. My favouritre egg tart in the world. Also worth a shot is KFC funnily enough.

Last night in Hong Kong, we leave tomorrow. It’s been amazing. Such a great and friendly place and loads to see and do.

We went to one of the AP boutiques and they were lovely to talk to.

Went to K11 last night and it was fantastic, really welcoming and friendly. Spent an hour and a half there and they gave the experience and hospitality that I’ve come to expect of AP. The view on the terrace was superb too.
