Milgauss

During April I was at my A.D and during the conversation he mentioned he has a milgauss for sale and I bought it. Though I have other rolexes I started liking this watch and wear it more often than others.I do understand there is a bit of dislike for this watch . Is there any specific reason for it.

People tend to dislike the second hand. Personally, I enjoy it, especially the blue dial

Milgauss is a nice watch! I personally like it, but I can see why it doesn't catch everyone's interest. Congrats on your purchase OP. What color dial did you get? Now that the model has been discontinued, that was a very nice score!

It was a Black GV. I was offered after it got discontinued. I think it’s a beautiful watch.

I’ll say something incredibly controversial. Magnetism is a field, not a form of radiation. So you cannot block magnetism. Electromagnetic field is two things that coexist, a magnetic field with the electro radiation.

Depends on who you ask. I love the Milgauss for its original concept and the rather overdone homage model which was the last in the line (for now). This is why I have a Z Blue and the fact that it is apparently disliked by so many may have helped me get one without effort. Anything that reduces demand is fine by me.

Congratulations! I find the white dial Milgauss to be the most attractive, and I would love to give it a try in my collection.

Sometimes, it can take years or even decades for someone or something to gain appreciation. The 4 digit Daytona is an example of that. In fact, the original 4 digit Milgauss was overshadowed by the Sub and was pretty much unwanted. Now, they're a grail for most.

What is attractive about Rolex is that they stick to their heritage. The Datejust, Day Date, Sub, GMT, Explorer, Daytona, etc., all look close to identical to their original iterations. Now, compare the 4 digit Milgauss with the 6 digit version, and you'll notice that they look dissimilar to each other. I believe this is a significant reason why the modern Milgauss is often overlooked.

This thread needs eye candy:

There are vocal critics of every Rolex reference. You can ask the question but you won’t get any meaningful answer, just a lot of noise. We’ll never see another Milgauss so be happy you were able to buy one at an AD.

Great points. I’m not. Much of a speculator, not do I care to be. However this thought has been on my mind often when I wear my Milgauss. The older early Daytona was a very disliked watch and now look at that line…. The last iteration of Milgauss was also very different from the rest of the Rolex lineup. I feel like given a few decades, because it is so different it will be fairly desirable. I may be completely wrong but looking at vintage Rolex, you never really see the oddities being undesirable. The Daytona is a good example where the opposite happened.

I personally think the Milgauss is a fantastic looking watch. I understand how it may be too eclectic for a company who’s main revenue is based upon a style that is very classic and traditional, but I really don’t think it’s too far off the mark. I think the little details that make it different make it that much cooler.

I personally love mine. It’s a great looking watch IMO and goes under the radar compared to some other models. I like the weight and size. It’s probably the only one in my collection that will never be sold.

My wife likes the GV more than most of my watches.

I do prefer the original black dial.

I love it but some don’t because of the lightning seconds hand and the heft of the case. I have looked at the vintage ones from time to time as well.

I reread a few times and I think I get his point.

The iron caseback / inner iron cage is directing the magnetic field through a higher permeability material to keep the field away from the movement where other magnetic materials may be in use.

The magnetic field continues through the watch and completes its loop unbroken, not reflected away or blocked like a radiating wave incident upon a metal shield.

Is the dial you have pictured dark green?

I have that exact same reference, which coincidentally was my first Rolex, and it appears dark green to me.

I don't understand the dislike for the first Milgauss models. Here is an interesting arricle "A Big Draw – The Rolex Milgauss" about its history with some great photos.

Though it has been discontinued I won’t be surprised if they bring it back in a few years in a different configurations.

I like them, I’ve kicked around the idea of picking up the white one. I love the orange/white combo, that’s what I love about my Polar Exp 2.

Can see finally grabbing one in early 24’
