Are there any CODEs that sell above retail on the market?

I can’t think of a single one…. Anyone know?

Surely the Starwheel sells for over retail. However what’s the relevance?

Hard to find any watches from any of the big brands that have this phenomena, save for some models of RO's, Aquanauts, Nautilus, only a few RMs, and SS Daytonas. And yes the SW is one of these models, but I hope they keep the model exclusive...Back to the good ole days where you buy truly for emotion...

According to Chrono24, my steel blue Chrono currently trades 2.5% under retail. I can live with that kind of depreciation.

I think the new stamped guilloché dials they have now released in PM as well will be in hindsight seen as the true launch of the Code series, and I expect to see interest pick up significantly over time for the entire stamped Code lineup.

Does that mean they will all trade over retail eventually? Most likely not, but which brand has no model under retail any more?

Over retail, but not most important. The code is here to stay. More and more positive comments on the web and socials. You have to see a Code in the flesh, it’s so good!

As said bij @audevache, it had just begun!

C24 prices are way over real comps. Not a good method.

How many Calatravas are still selling above retail? And how many Datejusts?

Sorry I really don't get the point of this thread, beyond the usual pointless Code bashing.

Do you have a pointer to an MSRP/sub-MSRP Starwheel? I'm sure several here would be interested.

I looked a while back just to see and MSRP on it is 57.9K, with tax, thats over 60K. Asking prices on inflated C24 is ~80-85K, which we know those prices are high and they sit. So I am not sure what they actually sell for, if they even do, but its not like they asking 2X like some small production references are. Leads me to believe there isn't much demand for them and that would drag prices down.

I have no dog in this fight, I appreciate the model but I would personally never be a buyer for one. Was just curious a while back and looked it up to see.

Wow, I had no idea it was down that low. I might finally convert some pieces I’m not wearing into a SW. As soon as it came out I wanted one.

Was that when they came out? They haven’t been available that long. What about today?

I think I’d probably pay 2x sales tax over retail in trade value.

You’d aid MRSP is at 57.9, at 85 it probably is a wash, not real gain but compared to other codes isn’t bad in this down market. Doesn’t look like many for sale either, could be a product of AP policies.

Never said it was a wash, just saying that's C24 prices which are historically much higher than actual trade value. So even if they are actually selling for 10% less than that, you are at high 70's. Really not much there after sales tax and a lot of value for what you get, if the Starwheel is your thing. I would never be able to read it.... lol

The watch enthusiasts I know make decisions based on passion, not what watches trade for on the resale market. Buy what you like to wear and enjoy staring at on your wrist. If investment is your concern, buy real estate.

Facts. Watches aren’t an “investment” despite who shady greys and YouTube influencers lead you to believe…

I don't think it's that black and white. I enjoy the watches I like a whole lot more knowing I can get out of them if I ever had to without any financial drawbacks. I don't need to turn a profit, but it's definitely a criteria for acquisition that I can dispose of the asset with a 10-15% loss MAX. The equation get's much harder to stomach when despite how much I like a watch - I know if I wanted to sell it I lose 50% of my money or more (which is where most Codes fall). Especially when you get to buying the upper echelon Codes (Tourbs/QPs/etc) if you can even liquidate it at all, in the current market people won't touch that stuff. Most of us didn't get to the point in our lives where we could buy AP to begin with by setting $ on fire lol.

Don’t forget our esteemed boutiques and AD’s perpetuate this myth as well.

Then you really should not be buying high end watches (or cars). Almost all non-hype pieces lose a lot of money. You don't buy a Calatrava or Vacheron (or countless others) because you think it will hold x% of value. You don't buy a Ferrari because you think it will hold value (SF90 buyers take note). You go in thinking if it goes to zero (or a normal non-covid induced depreciation schedule) it won't impact my life at all. If it will, dont buy it. I didn't care what my watches were worth in 2021 when they were up and dont care now when they are down from there. Simple.

It depends for me. Watches at the AP price point I wouldn’t want to lose my shirt on it, maybe for a single piece but not for a large collection.
