Jubilee or Oyster on DJ36 (Again)

Got an email from my AD this evening saying your expression of interest has now moved to order confirmed. Your chosen watch will be delivered as soon as Rolex can supply.

So before I confirm tomorrow morning I just thought I would ask opinions on the bracelet. I’ve never had a Jubilee and have concerns over the PCLs on an Oyster getting beaten up really quickly.

Watch as currently specified is DJ36 Slate Grey Dial, White Gold Fluted Bezel on Jubilee Bracelet.

I love the comfort of the Oyster bracelets on my Explorer and Sub Date. A mate has PCLs on his GMT and it seems to pick up scratches as soon as you look at it. So I went Jubilee as probably hides the scratches better.

The right choice and thought process?

I hate it when others give this response but it really is the only response to give: Get the one you like better. They are both fantastic.

Jubilee is the way to go. Half of the time, I forget I'm even wearing a watch at all.

The DJ36 was made for the jubilee. I'd never change that. (Likely not literally made for it, just in a "two peas in a pod" type of made for it.)

I'm no authority on this, but I think it actually was literally made for it. First released in 1945 on a Datejust in celebration (a "jubilee") of the company's 40th anniversary.

both of those watches above make me realize that I don't know what color I would choose... both are beautiful !!! And both look great with the jubilee.

This is how the first Datejust release looked in 1945. It's different from the modern Datejust, even with the jubilee bracelet. To suggest that the Datejust has to be on Jubilee because that's how it was born is misguided because the Oyster didn’t even exist in 1945, nor did the name Datejust, nor did the cyclops, nor did it come in stainless steel or two-tone, and so on.

Honestly, it’s not that different than a modern datejust, and that’s a good thing. 👍🏼

Great pick. You’ve got the oyster bracelet covered with your Sub and Explorer. The DJ on jubilee is a fantastic alternative. Best of both to enjoy

No it shouldn’t. I don’t know where these rules are written or coming from. A Datejust doesn’t have to come on jubilee and fluted bezel; personal preference and style is what should be considered. The BLRO was first introduced exclusively on the Oyster bracelet until about 5 years later. Are you going to say the current GMT “should be on” oyster?
