Cannot make up my mind - opinions please

Hi to all

Apologies for another one of such post but really need opinions on these 2 watches - Rolex Daytona Sundust (126515LN-0006) vs A. Lange & Sohne Odysseus White Gold (363.068).

Love both and would only get one, but personal opinions on both kept swinging both ways and have not been able to made up my mind. Help me out please!

Lange is a work of art, it’s horologies answer to Piccaso
But the Daytona you’ve shown is a little beauty too ..
How to decide .? I don’t think I could if I had the chance of either ..

Hard choice! No wrong answer.

I would take the Odysseus for its legibility, more useful complications and the fact you won't ever bump into someone wearing your watch!

Unfortunatley I do not care for rubber so neither for me.
But you need to ask yourself do you want a beautiful watch with a beautiful movement you can stare at and will fly under the radar?
Or do you want a beautiful watch people will recognize and ask you if its a Rolex but has a boring movement that you can't see.

Myself I do not care for Lange's date display when it's a single digit day, to me with the frame I just see a big blank billboard. I also don't like how the Daytona only has 3 has marks between the 5 minutes on the sub dials.

Both :)

Tho the rubber on the ALS seems... cheap. Do they offer a bracelet? As-is, i'd go 'tona.

I would go with the ALS. Its one I aspire to.
One question for you ……
How often would you used the chrono complication? Theres no point in paying for it if you don't use it.

I registered my interest for the ALS back in 2021/2022 but have not heard back from them. The last time I went into the boutique to find out how the progress was, I was told that without any purchase history with them, it's highly unlikely to get it. That is just for the WG variant. Stainless steel was an outright NO.

So, if you can get the ALS, go for it. The Daytona OF is much easier to get.

In terms of the watch, the ALS is unique in terms of its dial layout with its date and day aperture. It's also rarer than the Daytona. These days Daytona are quite ubiquitous relatively speaking, but an Odysseus is just rarely seen in public. The pushers also have a very good tactile feeling when pressed. The only drawback of the ALS is the buckle. I dislike the tang buckle that comes with the ALS, much prefer the size to wrist strap of the Daytona, though that's personal preference.

A quick search would reveal that WG Lange trades below MSRP… so don’t think it is a need to grab watch unless u really like it… I don’t at that price point as feel there are better options…

Personally, I think the ALS is a dog.

I rarely go for Rolex over something else interesting, but I'd stick with the Rolex here.

The Odysseus is the perfect watch for a Lange afficianado. In a varied collection I’d go Daytona easily.

Some opinions for were based on the difficulty of obtaining said watch, just in case he listened to them, or rather u?

I feel like at this price point, one of them has to feel like the right answer when it's on your wrist.

Personally, while I'm a pretty big Lange fan, this Daytona is just stunning and would be my pick. If you're looking for something that people probably won't notice though, then Lange.

First of all, I’m here on TRF to enjoy watches as a hobby, not to get into a confrontation or to antagonise people.

Yes, I said to get the ALS over the Daytona because it’s harder to get as that was MY personal experience. OP had asked a question in which he kept the options open as he likes BOTH. If he had indicated he prefers one over the other, but the difficulty in making a decision lies in which one is harder to get at retail, then the answer would have been different. If he likes both equally (which he mentioned above), then getting the one which is harder to get first is a choice I recommend, because the odds of getting a WG Odysseus from an ALS boutique at retail is lower than getting a OF Daytona at a Rolex AD. This simply stems from the fact that ALS makes 5000 pieces annually, while Rolex makes 1.2 pieces per year. If he has remorse with the Odysseus, there is a higher chance of him getting an OF Daytona from an AD, while the opportunity to acquire the Odysseus at retail may not come again. Remember: 5000 vs 1200000, and he likes BOTH!

I am not here to go on a long argument spree with you. Judging by the activities going on in the AP sub-forum, your opinions are the only ones that are valid and should be taken as facts, while others can toss theirs into the garbage bin based on your perspective.

ALS.
Perfect versatile choice and most of all legible.

Would prefer both on bracelet.

The Daytona looks awesome with your skin complexion. ALS Odysseus is, in my opinion, the ultimate casual watch. But I’m very partial to ALS.

Prob will take the Lange to try it. Something different. You can always swap for a Daytona

If it were steel, then the Odysseus. Otherwise the Daytona. I just hate the integration of the straps on the Odysseus line.

I thought I would like the Odysseus as I REALLY like Lange's watches.
I tried the SS on about 18 months ago and I did not care for it.
I cannot imagine i would like the WG more.

Either choice is nice, but i would immediately have an alligator strap made for it. Rubber just seems cheap to me. I would probably choose the Daytona as I like that dial. I do not care for the new dials as much.

I tried on the Odysseus WG at the boutique some time ago. For comparison I own a RO Jumbo and an Overseas Dual Time.

The Odysseus was nice, but nothing that really triggered the “must have” in me. I’ll have a Lange 1 or a Zeitwerk over l this any day.

I’m not a huge Daytona fan either but I’d probably pick Rolex here.

Daytona and that is coming from a huge Lange fan. The Odysseus has the least attractive bracelet integration of all the integrated bracelet watches. A real eyesore.

I completely agree. I don’t understand why they made the Odysseus bracelet look so chunky. I tried one on in person at the boutique when it was first announced and I just didn’t get the appeal. I felt like I was convincing myself to like it and couldn’t admit it was a misfire from a brand I like so much.
