Submariner vs Daytona : Which to keep?
I'm in consolidation mode, and considering moving one of these two (126610LN or 116500LN Black), and having a hard time deciding which. My other watches (that I don't intend on moving) are a VCO 4520V (silver dial) and Omega Seamaster James Bond 60th. So looking to get down to 3.
Thoughts on Submariner : Would be my only watch if I wanted to go down to one. Perfect fit, clean look, most versatile. It probably is my most "boring" watch though, I guess also I might be slightly tiring of it as I've had some version of a Sub for the better part of 16 years. It's also becoming a bit too ubiquitous for my taste, I was just on vacation this past weekend and prob saw about 5 Subs. So it's kind of the worst of both worlds, as it's easily recognizable as a Rolex (when I might not want that kind of attention) and yet it's also not very rare. I initially fell in love with it all those years ago because it was a nice watch that was versatile and fairly under the radar then, and yet could be worn pretty rough. I think the Overseas kind of fits that niche for me now. Thoughts on Daytona : I've chased after one for a long time and finally pulled the trigger earlier this year. I'd say it was a bit of letdown once the mythology in my mind was pierced and it was actually on my wrist, but that was coming from extremely high expectations. Now that I can judge it more fairly as a watch, I'd say it's still excellent. It's definitely not as common as the Sub, and I think the 39mm size wears a bit better on my wrist. I also love the workhorse 4130 movement, just a really crisp chrono. Design can be a bit busy at times for my taste, and I'm in my 40s now so I do wonder about legibility in the years to come. |

Keep both. Whichever one you are thinking of selling, just don't. Pack it up, put it in a box and keep it stored away somewhere safe--- out of sight, and out of mind. Give it a few months. Then, re-assess. There's a good chance you'll realize you were a fool to consider selling it, and you'll save yourself the time, money, and agony of having to buy it back again.

Which one do you actually wear more? That’s your keeper.

Agree on both assessments. I would probably choose a batgirl if I had to stick with one watch since it gives more flexibility, but Sub date is a very close second.
However since you don’t have to stick to one watch only, it means that you fall in one of the two categories: 1. People that appreciate owning watches above wearing them. That group usually has 5+ watches in their collection. More often than not 10+. If you belong to it, just keep your Sub as it is a great watch, you will enjoy owning it. 2. People that can’t justify not wearing some of their watches at least once a month. This group usually has 3-4 watches - daily, vacation, weekend, special occasion (you can combine the last two). If you belong to this group (and it seems that you do), I would keep Daytona. You already have a vacation/beach watch in Seamaster so Sub will be fighting with it for the wrist time. VC overseas is clearly a weekend/special occasion watch that leaves a spot open for a daily watch in your collection. I think Daytona is a great daily - very special and deserves most time on your wrist. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

As someone who had and sold a 116500 and regrets it immensely I would strongly suggest keeping yours. Subs are a dime a dozen.

Love the Sub, but I’d keep the Daytona. Maybe trade the Sub for the LV version? The touch of color makes it a completely different watch.

I think down the line a Submariner would be easier to add back to your collection, 116500 discontinued and is a beauty in my eyes ..

My 116500 LN is among my favorites, so I’d keep that. Submariner is great watch, but more easily replaceable if desire for it returned.

Never was a fan of the Daytona. The dial is too busy for me.
The Submariner in my opinion is the keeper. |

Easy choice keep the Daytona!
As you say the Sub is very common and you already have another diver. |

Not a big fan of the Daytona for several reasons but I think you would be unwise to get rid of it unless you are 100% sure. To me, it wears small, has no date, is hard to read and most people use it for little more than to time eggs or create some other reason to use the chronograph feature other than its true purpose. If you, on the other hand, drive around a track and need a timer, have excellent vision and a smaller wrist, it might be a keeper. It also depends on whether you bought the Daytona from a grey or an AD. Another factor is that, although they couldn’t give them away at first, the Daytona did become rare but now are fairly common in the wild. And they aren’t all fakes no matter what some claim. However, the Daytona will never be as common as the Sub; and it will always be desirable. Furthermore, the Daytona would be far more challenging to replace. So . . .
I keep going back and forth. Ultimately, it’s a tough call but keep the one you want to wear and enjoy wearing not what I or others like. Good luck. |

I say let the Sub go if you have the Omega diver, no need for 2 dive watches in the collection, also gives you a blue dial and a black dial instead of 2 black dials.
On a side note, I just recently purchased an NOS 116500ln from grey and I love it, but I had tried it on a few times and gotten myself past the "hype/mystic" part ahead of time. The more I wear it and enjoy it for great chrono with an awesome movement. I also have a Speedmaster 321 and I love the combo of the two |

If having a rounded 3 watch collection is important, with most bases covered and not much crossover, the Sub has to go.
But as others have said, keep the one you wear the most if thats more important than the whole 3 watch collection thing. |

Likewise the Sub well that's a Rolex classic and always will be, not like others that are well over hyped.

Sub is the ideal keeper in my opinion.
Saying it would be your only watch if you consolidated down to one should give you the answer right there. |

Dump the Daytona. it's principal function has been obsolete for years. When was the last time a Daytona measured lap times for any form of racing?
