LV Escale
Like the vintage looks of the blue dial, and the wearable size. What are your thoughts on this new release?
https://watchesbysjx.com/2024/06/lou...nly.html?amp=1 39mm by 10.34mm "Inspired by the riveted brass corners found on Louis Vuitton trunks, the lugs are a distinctive detail that refine the design. They polished and contrast against the brushed flanks of the case." "The hour markers at the quarters feature actual rivets that secure them to the dial, while the engraved dots on the minute scale evoke the nails on the frame of a trunk." "Also in platinum is the model with a meteorite dial centre that gives the watch a monochromatic yet varied look. Although everything is in shades of silver and grey, the different textures and surface finishing make it interesting." Not sure I like the movement finishing enough - would have liked some internal angles at this price point

I like it a lot but don’t love it I’ve always liked the Escale line, the initial world timer was very busy but loved the design language.
I wish the Paris text was moved to bottom of dial for symmetry. I love that the complicated/artisanal pieces came first then this. I believe had the Code line done that, it would have been less poo-pood in general. And on the converse this could be criticized for being too plain had the GLV pieces not come out a few months ago. Pricing is better here. Still a lot of competition in the market at that price range. I am glad to see things in the right direction. I am enjoying the photos in articles. 3-4 years ago I really was into LV high watches but could not hold a conversation without the other party keeping a straight face. Now lots of articles and support with everyone clamoring to get some Arnault love (and funding). |

I like these quite a bit just not anywhere near the price point.

That said, when I was reading the articles I was expecting the price to be at 45 range based on their other catalogue pricing. So I was pleasantly surprised to see it more “realistic.” |

It honestly looks great. They really put some care into getting a stylish look that has clear and coherent LV visual DNA.
For those who mention internal angles, I would say that's a little silly, we don't see that on Lange at this price point and we don't see any hand finishing at all on Patek at this level. Firing more friendly shots: If you are tempted to write that you'd go for a Lange (or a Patek, for which: See above), it's okay. I hear you. I like boring watches, too. These watches are for people who like interesting looking watches. I mean, come on, this is like a handbag on your wrist! Just imagine that I'm vaguely hand-waving toward the rivet-y things on the dial and case. Like it or don't, this is interesting! I think LV, along with Hermes, has been stepping out of horologically uninteresting "fashion watches" and they are now squarely competing in the stylish mechanical watch space with Cartier, etc. I would say it's watch, uh, savants like us who are behind in recognizing this. |

LV Escale
I especially like the platinum model with a meteorite dial.
Those shades of silverish meteorite which are distinct for each watch and, with platinum finishing, it's interesting. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Nice to see LV trying, hopefully they advertise it enough to help lift the overall timepiece industry.

I do like some of the details. The hour markers at 3,6,9,12 look great and match well with the lugs. But overall it‘s a very generic dress watch and there‘s too much competition at the price point. Would‘ve liked this watch release 10 years ago, but not today.

I believe the Vacheron Traditionnelle time only has 3 interior angles. I think it’s a better watch than this new LV release.

Used Laurent Ferrier Origin, 90’s Lange 1, Czapek Antarctique, used Vacheron 56 day-date and full calendar, Vacheron Traditionnelle and 1942 (new / used) just to name a few and I’m sure there are others if you take the time to think about it.

I think they look ok. The rivet trunk brackets are nice enough. I just can’t even start to take LV seriously as a watch mfg, and I think they are overpriced by about 2.5x.

LV Escale
I just don’t want a watch that looks like the overpriced luggage from the company that makes luggage. I’m also tired of this movement aesthetic that’s running rampant. Looks very chronodey. Gronefeld did this style best for my taste and now it’s watered down with everyone and their mother running with it.
I don’t want a brand tie in I guess. I don’t need to be reminded of their history making trunks. Make Geneva stripes great again 2024! lol

The one on my wrist right now. I swam in the ocean with it only hours ago, and there was a lovely sunset this evening too. 28d.jpg 1k.jpg

and if i may, special mention to Torsti Laine, imho the very best value in custom. $12k goes a long way when you deal directly with the watchmaker.
LV has advertising costs, store costs, distribution costs, a CEO and shareholders who want to be paid.... laine1.jpg _n9.jpg

Shallow, yes, but definitely there. Finishing overall is way above the LV too. I mean the Excale is an interesting release, but pretty dang ambitious pricing it on par with the holy trinity and some others. Not sure how LV works though, maybe this watch is for people building up their spending profile to get ultra rare bags like Hermes does? lol |

LV Escale_LIMITED EDITIONS
I recently received my tambour steel, with blue dial a few weeks back and I love the watch. Recent watch collector with about 20 pieces. Having bought the Tambour at its inception last year it unknowingly put me into a tier where I was invited to the opening celebration with Jean Arnault for the new Escale novelties.
This past Friday, my "SA" called and texted me Friday offering the Crafts Master, (see photos attached) blue hand-guilloché dial watch in platinum which I was initially excited about at the party. It is a beautiful dial, but so is their blue & gold tourbillon (which I am considering) and it is not as unique or interesting as their Spin Time Air Gaston. So, I don’t think this model presents a unique addition to my collection. And not to crowd the tambour I just received, which I wear often, and has a stunning multi blue dial incorporating the same Calibre LFT023 movement and then when considering the price point for the platinum this is a pass. There are a lot of other watches at that price point I would prefer to add to my collection. I prefer yellow gold watches especially with a blue or black dial. I think next on my list is the Rolex day date 40 / Ref:228348RBR.

So many options out there, good to have another one.. Seems to be a play on what works at the time, nothing new is added here… case design, aesthetics and general feel are all played out…

Thought the Tambour was a homerun. Or at least a solid stand-up triple.
The Escale feels a bit too much like a stretch. Not feeling the rivets motif. |
