does anyone else think rolex ruined the sub?

Is it me or there are others who do not like the case shape and bracelet of the latest gen (126610) sub? Most reviews etc overwhelming seems to be favout the updated model.

I have the 126610LV for almost a year now. For me the the color of the bezel (mk2) has been the main attraction but with time i have started to focus bit more on the other elements of the watch (like case and bracelet).

I feel the case on the new feel bit too vintage inspired. I for one dont mind bit more modern styling. And I also think I prefer the 20mm bracelet of the last model.

Does anyone else think the same?

Not for me. The 116610 is an absolute mess imo. The case shape is terrible. 126610 is much better but still not on par with the 16610

I had the 114060 and a few different 12 subs. I like the subs with ceramic bezels, so that eliminates any pre-ceramic subs for me. The 12 is way better than the 11 for me. I think the 12 subs are close to perfect and look forward to adding in the years to come!

Yes, despite its boxiness, aesthetically I prefer the 114060 / 116610 case profile and 20mm bracelet to the current gen Submariner.

12 series Submariner is perfection.
The taper on the bracelet is aesthetically pleasing, with the larger clasp balancing out the overall design. A very welcomed retuning of the classic.

I like them. But I also like the 11 subs and the 5 digit subs.
All are different watches to me. I suppose the perspective of they are all different watches kind of makes them more enjoyable to wear and I find that keeps a collection interesting.

Nope. I've owned the 16610, 116610, and now 126610 and think the new one is the best by far.

Was never a huge fan of the little nipple indicies on the 16610, prefer the maxi dial. And the slimmed lugs make the 12 look so much nicer than the 11.

Not just a classic Sub but the 12 is one of the most aesthetically pleasing watches of all time imo.

The sub was ruined with the 116610… 12 is way better, but still not nearly as nice as the 4 and 5 digit references.

Just my $0.02

Lately since not wearing my 124060 as much I realized. I like the size of my 126710BLNR more. The 12 series is an improvement in case over the 11 series. I just wish it was smaller by 1 mm. I have had 5 series sub all my life and a couple of years of the 16610LV. The smaller size is more elegant to me. I also wish the new sub41 wasn’t as boxy and more like the 5 series. The bracelet and clasp are a little big but don’t bother me. I’d welcome even slimmer lugs and chamfers on the 12 series as well

It’s not better. It’s worse. The 116xxx was the last great Sub.
All things considered, movement, case and bracelet (mostly the movement).

Once again, y’all would trade your 126xxx for a Hulk every day and 2x on Sundays.

The 11 works better for me. I'm glad I got mine when I did. Each to our own. The 12 is just fine but I don't want or need one.

I do like the fit better of the GMT and wore the BLNR way more when I had the 124060. But when I had the 12SubLV I wore them almost equally. I like it was more of the pop of color, uniqueness and less about the way they wore for me

I wouldn’t as I never liked the light green dial on the hulk. Now the 12LV with black dial, yes. Or even better a 12LV with a flat green dark dial like on the OP would be great.

I can’t with that blocky case. Also too green for me. Plus I prefer my 16610LV above both the 11 and 12 series

I like em both, but I did sell my 126610 to fund an unpolished full set 2019 Hulk last summer. I do prefer how the bracelet/clasp wear vs the current sub. But I only sold it do to wanting more color. As I get older I prefer a colorful watch vs a standard black model.

It's not a 116 or 126... those sequence numbers are for almost everything in the Rolex lineup as per series.
Submariner 11 series = 11-6610 / 11-4060
Submariner 12 series = 12-6610 / 12-4060
Daytona 11 series 11-6500
Daytona 12 series 12-6500
GMT 12 series = 126710, etc..
Oyster Perpetual, DateJust, etc...

12 is the series, followed by the model, followed by metal variant, followed by color when applicable: LN, LV, BLRO, etc...

Yep pedantic.
But you know what we’re referring to.
Hopefully everyone else does too

I have an 11 series 40 mm sub and I am very content with it. My grail is actually the Smurf and/or Hulk, which only comes the 11 series so I guess it’s lucky for me that I don’t mind the 11 series case. But with that said, I would probably happily wear a 12 series, but I have no desire to Trade or sell my 11 series for a 12 series.

I have the 11 series Sub Date from AD and will never part with it. It has special sentimental value until I pass it down and I’ve grown to like the boxy dimension compared to my 5 digits Subs. If I could’ve gotten the 12 series (I got the 11 series pre-2020), I would have preferred that watch for the more svelte proportions.

But, love the one you’re with.

I have owned 2 12 series Subs and a number of 11 series Subs.
There’s a trade-off with both models. The clasp size and bracelet is better for me with the 11 series. I much prefer the size of the clasp on the GMT so that saying something about comfort in how they taper. Dial, hands and lume is splitting hairs. The lugs are better on the 12 series. Both have flat maxi-case sides. When I get another Sub it could be either series. There is an argument for both movements. Build quality and materials are equal. I have owned the pre ceramic for decades and that is a completely different animal and more vintage in feel and build.

If the 11 series looked good, they would not have needed to "refine" it into the 12 series and bring back sane proportions.

Rolex has managed to ruin most of its classics. Change is not always good. 5 digits were peak Rolex.

Thanks for this

I own both and the lug profile isn’t as noticeable on the wrist as in pictures IMO.

What is noticeable is the clasp. IMO the 114060 wears better. Obviously YMMV

clasp too long on the new one but honestly no one outside of the owners can tell them apart in the real world

^^ This is the reality. I am sure even the wives are rolling their eyes when explaining the difference when you show a side to side pic. We as WIS are so hypercritical of everything but that is also what drives our passion and has us choosing one over the other. If we didn’t care about these minute details we would probably not wear a watch.

Clasp kills it the most for me. I find the modern Rolex dive watches all wear quite large, and I prefer a more 5 digit sizing as my taste continues to evolve. That said, the newest GMT is for me the best of the modern Rolex in terms of bracelet and case.
