Bottom pusher fell off my Daytona!

Hi all,

Having taken out my daytona from the watch box last night, the bottom pusher just fell on the floor.
I've owned the watch since new (2018) and am really shocked by this.
I have the 116519LN WG version on oysterflex.

A quick search on here suggests that this isn't an isolated issue.

Do you think Rolex UK will insist on servicing the watch instead of just fixing the issue?

Thanks

I would think they will insist on a service to assure there's no further damage internally along with the exterior problem.

Knowing the way Rolex operate, then a service is quite likely after six years.

That’s a bummer. They’ll most likely service the watch given it’s age

As others said, yes this is rare yet can happen. Your local AD can give you more info / send it to RSC for service.

Is this type of thing specific to precious metal Daytonas?

Yes. It has been seen more on pm models for sure. It doesn’t happen a lot but when it does, it’s on a pm model over the years on TRF.

So sorry that happened, OP! I hope it gets sorted quickly. Just based on stories here, I’d say they will probably insist on a full service. How far out of warranty is it? If it’s a known issue, and less than a year, maybe you’ll get lucky.

Bottom pusher fell off my Daytona!

My experience was 20 years ago with an SS model so not relevant for your situation. I know the upsetting feeling is the same though.

But instead of RSC, I had a local watchmaker reinstall the pusher.

Can you look at the underside of the pusher to see if the stem broke, or does it appear that the pusher came off the stem?

Things happen to any physical object that's been manufactured, regardless of price or value. Some guy just had his Koenigsegg catch fire in the street and destroy itself, it happens.
It's how the company sorts it out afterwards that matters - Koenigsegg are replacing the car for free. My guess is Rolex will repair this guys Daytona for no cost too if it's within warranty.

Rolex makes mechanical watches, they're subject to failure just like every other watch ever made. Most pushers are fixed to the case with an internal screw, which also activates the stop/start or reset mechanism in the movement. Sometimes these screws back out - it happens with speedmasters, it happens with Seikos. If the Daytona is built the same way the movement comes out and the screw is reinserted into the pusher cap and tightened. It's not a complicated job, but no doubt Rolex will insist on a full service - because that's their policy.

I think Rolex should pick up the repair even if the warranty has run if it appears it just failed over time as opposed to being damaged. The pusher structure should not fall off the watch in my view.

The post above in the 2020 thread probably is the answer. People unscrewing and screwing the pushers while the watch is being worn. The lateral pressure is such it causes metal fatigue especially in gold. Virtually every watch company, except maybe Rolex, advice not to wind a watch while it is on the wrist for this very reason.

Sorry to hear, OP. Had this happen to my basically new Daytona 116505 RG on bracelet. Took it out of the box and bottom pusher fell off :(
Off to Rolex authorized Service center in Florida. Came back perfect a few weeks later.

Hi all, so I have just dropped the watch off at Rolex HQ in London.
I was surprised to hear that I actually bought the watch in 2019, so it is still under warranty.
He said that this will help my cause!
They will be back in touch tomorrow to let me know what they plan to do.

Just to say that I have never used the chronograph pusher buttons and have never dropped it or knocked it.
I am quite OCD with my watches which makes this whole thing all the more surprising.

Will update again tomorrow!

Great news, they'll cover it all for sure and it'll be back with you in no time, in one piece. Crisis averted :)

You might end up with a "free" service too almost 5 years in. Not bad!

See I thought this with my 116710BLNR... about 3 weeks before the warranty was up I had to send it off because the rotor begun wobbling around in the back, quite loud if you moved the watch, I could feel it vibrating.

Anyway, sent it off, expected that given its age it may have been fully serviced, it came back with the rotor repaired/upgraded, but no service... Not sure why
