Grail Patek has arrived

Feels pretty surreal!

Journey: 5712a blue -> 5726a blue -> 5980a white -> 5990a grey -> 5712a blue -> 5711a white -> 5711a green (throw in a 5167a and 5164a x2)

Why 5711 green?

1) Out of the lot, 5711 ended up being my favorite for its simplicity to my surprise.. very thin, elegant but still sporty

2) Steel is my favorite material for durability and lightness, something just innately appeals to me combining Patek with the "layperson's" material of steel versus PM, especially as I try to daily my watches wherever/whenever possible

3) Green is my favorite color! And pretty cool to have this dial commemorate the end of the legendary 5711 line with all the editions and variants Patek put out over the years, I guess along with the Tiffany dial

4) 5740: Thought long and hard about 5740g as prices are on par with each other (forgetting MSRP), but ultimately I wanted the more subtle piece to encourage me to wear it more without worry, my watches can die due to lack of wear at times and figured setting the perpetual calendar might disincentivize me to put it on quickly going out somewhere (talk about a first world problem), as mentioned above prefer steel to WG, the lack of seconds hand on the 5740, and of huge importance was getting the *old flat clam-style clasp*

5) The rarity of this piece just appealed to me

Thoughts:

Love love love how subtle this piece is, ironically it's the highest value Naut I've owned but probably the most subtle as the dial is so dark it looks almost black, then you get the deep olive sunburst effect when the light hits the dial right

I'll wager 99 out of 100 people seeing this piece in the wild would guess it's the blue dial as they both look near black at times, I like that only "connoisseurs" or wannabe connoisseurs like myself would even know what this piece is

The gold border around the date window and updated date wheel font I really like

Cheers

The watch ultimately belongs on your wrist, not anyone else.
Congratulations on your new watch! Have a pleasant time with it!

Also based on the titanium fuel cap on your desk do you have a TDF!?

Patek makes exceptional dials, they have acquired a very strong mastery of how different layers, techniques and colors work together (Cadrans Stern Frères). The green dial on these Nautilus is very sibtle, congratulations and thanks for sharing :)

Congrats!! Curious, in your journey, why you owned the 5712a twice?

The simplicity, elegance, and sporty vibe of the 5711 really make it stand out, especially in steel, your favorite material. The green dial is such a nice touch, and it's awesome that it commemorates the end of the 5711 line.

I'm a one watch only guy (most of the time), so always bought and sold for the next.. no Aquas left

Haha if I still had my tdf, the titanium fuel cap would be on the car.. kept it for hopefully another one down the road, have a Speciale for now

It's a really cool piece, probably my 2nd favorite Naut after the 5711 with the asymmetrical dial and the moonphase/power reserve functions which are very well done on this watch, and combined with the thin case. Conversely I couldn't jibe with the 5726 at all and moved it after only a couple days to my own surprise

Wow. Huge congrats on this. So cool!
What a tough choice vs the 5740 and I think very few people would have gone this way but I think I would have done the same. What a special piece. Enjoy it!
Hope to see more pics

Enjoyed reading about your journey & your rationale- especially vs. 5740. It is, indeed, a special piece. Wear it in good health!
