old patina questions...

... i was just wondering why the patina on the markers (although uniformly discolored) is not the same as that of the hour/minute/second hands... and why has the patina showed itself earlier as compared to the other 14060s produced on the same year.
...i'm not complaining though...i like it the way it is...

Maybe the hands are luminova?
The hands tend to age faster than the dial markers so if anything they should usually be at least as yellow as the hour markers and possibly more so.
What year is your Sub from?
Tritium can start to look like yours after 15 years.

Your hands look replaced.... I can't say 100% but they look too new.

Turn of the light and take a look.

It is possible that the hands have been replaced, but depending on the year of production this does happen sometimes.
Many Explorer II's produced around 1990-92 have the tendancy to do this.
You will notice some dial and hand sets change colour and others don't, this is generally put down to being from different suppliers/batches if Rolex put a dial from one supplier/batch on your watch and the hands from another you could get this effect.
Here is a picture of a totally original factory Explorer II from the timeframe I mention, not my picture, but I have owned an identical one

This is an anomaly found on many vintage Tudor Subs.
