Someone posted this link on P.com and I must say this is a beauty. First time I've seen it. Here's the direct link to the article: http://www.relogioserelogios.com.br/...idNoticia=1253

You may need to use Google translate if you can't read Portuguese :)

Wow. Very nice. I wonder how much of a premium it will command over a normal 1950 3 Days?

Just out of curiosity - I wonder why they went with screw pins instead of the quick release system that is on every other 1950 3 Days?? Perhaps drilling into the lugs underneath would have weakened the composite too much??

karmatp 14 November 2010 12:23 AM

Great, another beautiful pam that I can't afford. :banghead:

Seriously, what a great looking Panerai.

TheDude 14 November 2010 12:26 AM

It is the 386. To be announced at SIHH 2011.

This looks like an official statement from Panerai...

No pricing info has been released but I'm guessing it would be between the 8k and 10k mark. They may go with the new quick release system since this one appears to be a prototype IMO.

I'm not so sure about this. On the two lugs where the release would be, you'd have holes going in and converging on 2 axes from 3 directions. That would make one corner of the lug very compromised. The composite might not be able to withstand that, either breaking a high percentage of time during manufacture, or perhaps it compromises longevity.

A composite? Interesting... I kind of like it. I am usually a basher of all PVD-esque watches.

B. Doggy 14 November 2010 02:11 AM

It's certainly sweet!

Nica64 14 November 2010 02:52 AM

Wow beautiful Pam!!

mfer 14 November 2010 04:01 AM

Looks good. Wonder how it wears. I'd be even more excited if it was in a regular Luminor case.

leeye 14 November 2010 10:10 AM

sweet! an improvement over the 339 with a see thru back to showcase the in-house movement.

alljunks 14 November 2010 10:14 AM

onkyo 14 November 2010 01:23 PM

Beautiful Pam..... amazing dial!!

Spencer 14 November 2010 02:53 PM

Wonder how it will compareprice wise to the 339...

With automatic movement Panerai P.9000, the box Panerai Luminor 1950 in Composite ® and the strict observance of the functional and aesthetic codes that make each one unique watch Panerai, the Luminor Marina Automatic Composite 1950 3 Days - 44 mm, to be officially presented sihha in 2011, is a classic example of the Panerai tradition of innovation and quality.

The box Luminor 1950 and the bridge protecting the crown are made of composite Panerai ®, a synthetic ceramic used in high watchmaking first by Officine Panerai, created by an electrochemical process involving the transformation of aluminum. The Composite Panerai ® is much lighter than ceramic, but at the same time is much harder and stronger than steel and, moreover, is dull and looks very different.

The big brown dial, unadorned, has sandwich construction consisting of two superimposed layers containing the Super-LumiNova ® forming the numerals and hour markers fluorescent. He has the classic Panerai style, reflected by its thickness and high readability even in the dark. The display is protected by a sapphire crystal with smoked antirrefletivo treatment.

The automatic movement P.9000, which can be seen through the sapphire crystal back, is 13 ¾ lines in diameter and 7.9 mm thick, and was entirely designed and built in the manufacture Officine Panerai in Neuchâtel. This gauge has a date function, small seconds at 9 o'clock and a power reserve of three days, guaranteed for two mainspring barrels connected in series with an oscillating weight that loads the springs in both directions.

The Luminor Marina Automatic Composite 1950 3 Days - 44 mm is water resistant to 30 atm (300 meters) and comes with an aged brown leather strap with a clasp of the same color composite. Identified by the reference PAM00386, it is part of the Contemporary collection.

TSW 14 November 2010 06:13 PM

Very nice!

++RAY++ 14 November 2010 06:34 PM

This one looks cool!

TheDude 14 November 2010 11:15 PM

Let's break this one down...

The way I see it, the closest watch to it is the 351 due to the brown dial. I will say though, based on the color differences in these photos - the 386 seems to have the more traditional Panerai tobacco shade than the almost imperceptible brown on the newer models.

Anyway... swap the titanium for composite, swap the modern lume for patina lume, and the gilt hands for black hands. If you go by the photos, the quick change strap system is deleted too.

You have the 386.

yes the 339 is on my list (and i'm on their waiting list). guess i have to make another call to the boutique to make reservations for the 386. add to that another 2 Shanghai LE watches to be delivered by end 2010. let's hope Panerai give me some breathing space in between all these watches

Shade 15 November 2010 03:39 AM

I agree completely... Stunning...

Psmith 22 November 2010 06:27 PM

That's more like it, looks and tech -wise. I wonder how light it will feel on the wrist (I like a bit of heft) and how ding-resistant the composite is?
