Thoughts on this 1680 Red Sub
I found a 1680 Red Submariner, and it seems great - but as anything with vintage, the devil is in the details. Any chance anyone sees any issues with this example?
https://i.imgur.com/SoXb0Vx.jpg Here are the rest of the photos. The serial is 3.8 so it is from 1973. I found this thread talking about serial numbers being re-engraved. I didn't think to look at that when I saw it earlier - will definitely check again before pulling the trigger. Thanks in advance for your help  |
The end pieces are wrong for that model. Should be 580 not 501. I am no expert on the other details so I’ll let the others chime in.

i'm no expert but if you buy it, send it to rsc right away solely for a report card with no work authorized. ask the seller to pay for the rsc bill if there's anything glaring which affects the value in a materially big way.
if its not original where it counts, it could be a problem. |

Here's the best resource I've found when looking at red subs. http://www.drsd.com/watch-info/red-sub/redsub.html

I think the tricky part with these vintage pieces is that the scammers will also find these resources and use them to modify the piece. I just don't know the tell tale signs of those tricks. |
a couple of white specs in the dial -- i would look carefully at those as they impact the value. (one spec between 5 and 6 o'clock and one bigger spec between 12 and 1.)

What you have there is an MK6 dial, relumed hands, and a service insert. Always check your lug engravings and caseback. Good luck.

I would have also missed the relumed hands. Definitely passing on this one. If you are around Europe, I owe you a beer. |

The correct bracelet would be the 9315. |
