Is this an upgrade? . . .

Am I nuts trading my 5167a for the 5167r? Owning both is not an option. I currently have the 5712/1a, steel black daytona LN, steel sub, tudor gmt, tag tourbillon, 36mm gold DD (gift from dad), cartier roadster (gift from wife), I have not purchased a PM before because I always thought they were for old men. When i put on the 5167r, I like the heft, I like the rich brown dial with how the markers pop, and i like that it is an understated PM piece. To be honest I do get a kick out of possessing things that are "hard" to get, which i why i'm hesitant letting go of the 5167a in this market. Is it time for Peter Pan to grow up and evolve to PM?

If the hard to get factor is your primary impetus for holding on to the 5167A, I'd move it. That said, I like the 5167A more than the 5167R. I think stainless steel and a rubber strap makes more sense than gold and a rubber strap. Have you considered keeping your 5167A and acquiring a 5711R?
|
You bet it is. The stainless is great but can’t hold a candle to the R . I have the r and love it. As you said it really is understated elegance - I even get frequent comments about how great it looks- though not many know what it is.The chocolate dial with 18 K gold applied numerals is Perfect, especially with the wonderful chocolate strap. Do it , you will never regret it Chief , james in San Antonio Tx

Oh oh is that a black face and black strap on the 67R ?
|
The 5167R is awesome and takes the 5167 to another level - I’d do it.
I wouldn’t get hung up on having a hot piece - you got it and it’s sometimes time to move on to other things. Plus you also have another hot steel reference. |

If I'm getting a patek sporty watch in rose gold, I will go for the 5712R or 5980R. I prefer leather over rubber.
|
I think gold on rubber is the ultimate “i am who I am watch”.
Both of these are winners. I’d personally go gold for this one. |

Upgrade is a strong word. I’d keep what you have.

For sports watches, I would say SS >> PM.
However I own a WG Aquanaut, so rules are meant to be broken :dude: |

Go for the heavy hitters......

5167r

Are there differences in the dial between the SS version and the PM one? Or is it the same dial? Thanks!

rg has chocolate brown dial so does the strap |
I’d rather keep what you have personally but both are nice.
|
iMO, the 5167r is the Aquanaut to have, the best looking of its line, so yes, i would swap the SS for this one.
|
I had the same dilemma and also changed the 5167a for the r.
No regrets whatsoever. I feel the r is on another level https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...28830c5d9d.jpg |
Keep the steel. A classic like the 5711. Nice, clean and simple black dial and matching strap. I am not a big fan of the rose gold brown dial/strap config. Maybe if it had a black dial but the brown isnt the best. Steel is more durable and as you probably have been, can daily it without as much worry. Get a AP in gold if you need something in PM and variation.
|
Im not sure there is a wrong answer here. All aqua and nautilus are hard to get...so you are in very short company regardless. I think the steel vs gold is a personal preference
Me personally id keep the steel vs the gold.. |
To me the steel looks much better aesthetically on the rubber. To each his own:cheers:

Given what's in your collection, I would do this trade 100% yes.
|
i would rather have the A so no i dont consider it an upgrade at all. If you prefer it fine. But on metal alone no
|
When I tried it on I didn't think it was enough of a change to warrant the cost.
|
On the Aquanauts, I think the A looks better and fits in with the design of the watch better. But each to their own!
