The kid landed on the ground in front of Ethan wondering WTF happened. His parents were stunned and naturally Ethan won the match. Everyone was friendly there but it did blow some minds. Those were fun days. I miss the environment and the parents and of course the sensai. Good times.

Oh, Ethan's kick was very pretty. I was referring to the roundhouse kick poster. I know a lot of adults who think "gee, this looks easy" and up goes the knee, no pivot and they don't know WTF happened either :-)
Some schools teach the kids to crowd because they believe that it will prevent them from getting a kick up. Also, in some of the old snap kick styles, rushing the opponent would get them to fall over if the stance was weak. Lots depends on the instructor, style, and ring rules.
I recently had to quit 25 years worth of martial arts practice/instruction/reffing because the doctor said my knees were shot and I really ought to stop doing that stuff. I really do miss it. At least I get to do a bit of bo form in Lysistrata :-)
