Help needed to move spring bar on GMT IIC

I have been trying to move the spring bar within the clasp of the GMT IIC with the Easy Link system in order to slightly tighten the bracelet. Using a Bergeon 6767-F (narrow forK) spring bar tool, I opened the easy link and was able to get the fork into the space where the spring bar is. The problem is that I can't grab the spring bar and push it down and out of the present hole. I tried both sides of the spring bar. Is there another spot that I'm missing where I could grab the spring bar? Is there another tool that is better suited for this? I'm trying to avoid scratching the clasp or the easy link, and I'd rather not have to go back to the AD which is quite a distance. Thanks. Myron

Well, it is tricky.........so I don't blame you.

First off, I had to do the same thing with my TT GMT-IIC and I happen to have the Bergeon 6111 tool which seems to work.

Secondly, it's easier if you have the bracelet OPEN - by which I mean, you need to unscrew one link (any side, doesn't matter) and completely open up the bracelet which would make it easier to get to that micropin inside the clasp.

With a CLOSED bracelet, you will find the links falling all over you and the whole operation can get very clumsy, fiddly and frustrating.

Good luck - JJ

Thanks JJ. I thought that opening the bracelet would help, but I was too chicken to try it. How different is the Bergeon 6111 from the 6767?

Not really sure, my friend........'cause I don't know what the 6767 looks like.

My 6111 has a V-fork on both ends - one side is really very tiny and that's the one I have to use to take off my spring-bars as well as make adjustments in the clasp.

The other end has a larger V-fork, possibly useful for those Rolexes without lug holes, but on straps.

I followed your advice and I successfully moved the pin to the next hole. Fits much better and now I can use the easy link when my wrist swells. I see why people rave about the Glide Lock system. I'm waiting to get the new sub, partly due to this new clasp. Thanks again and best regards. Keep your posts and threads coming. They are most interesting and informative. Myron

Glad it worked out for you in the end, Myron.

Yes, the GLIDELOCK system is much better and more user-friendly. This Easy Link is not all that practical.........because when you open it up, it extends the overall length of the bracelet by a whopping 5 mm which is way too much. I cannot see any wrist expand by 5 mm in the hottest or most humid of weather changes.

The GLIDELOCK, on the other hand, allows for 1.8 mm extensions to make life so much easier for the wearer.

By the way, it's a much better idea to wear the GMT-IIC with the Easy Link folded in. This way, the strain of the bracelet falls on the solid tube link of the last folded link...........rather than on the micropin if you were to wear the bracelet with the EZ link opened up.

Just a tip.

JJ do you know of any photos showing the easy link in both positions because I've yet to find it on my new GMT llc. Thanks, Steve

Here is the best image I have readily available with the easy link open. You know the easy link is open inside the clasp cover because one can see the spring bars that holds the easy link/bracelet to the clasp cover (at the end of the SeaDweller pin tool). If the link is closed, you cannot see the spring bars.

Thank you - apparently mine was open - I fliped it over, pushed, and it clicked in. Now the watch fits on my wrist much better. I had one link removed when I got it and it was still a little big. I thought about having another link removed or the clasp adjusted - but no need to now - this fix solved the problem. Thanks, Steve

This forum is great.

This forum is great.
Well done, Steve.

And like I've said above, it's better to wear this watch with the EZ link tucked in rather than having it opened up and having the strain and tension of the bracelet fall upon the small micropin.

Thx to everybody who pitched in here. I have my bracelet set to 6 (12 side) and 4 (6 side) but it felt a little bit to loose. So after doing some research and finding this thread, I moved the micropin (as explained above) to the "tightest position", and then tucked in the EZ linked just like JJ described.

Now the watch fits perfectly! (and as it will get more and more humid here, I'll just move the micropin to the middle position. Piece of cake )

Cheers,
Joe
