Money is for getting what you want. If you have the money, get what you want. Having to pay a premium would irk me but it wouldn't stop me. I wouldn't wait. Especially in the current market. There is no promise that an AD will come through with the watch you want anytime soon. So get the watch now and enjoy.

I’m kind of leaning in this camp. Gas here suddenly went up to $4.50 a gallon (it’s Oct), and prime beef is $40.00 a pound, which seemed to have also gone up overnight. I told my wife last night when I got home that it smells funny and to buckle down a little. I like to spend money like anyone else who likes to reward themselves for hard work, but paying huge money for a watch because it’s hugely over MSRP, is dumb, and even worse after a market corrects and you’re staring at a $9k watch that you paid $7 grand more for just to settle an impulse. I personally find this watch and the Daytona overrated (they’re beautiful), but throwing money literally out the window is just not a smart thing to do. Unless you truly have money to burn. And I don’t. I don’t get caught up in hype or trends and have patience. Even if I never get it.

If it is just a watch to complete your trio then I would wait it out. Now if it is a piece you really love and/or grail then get it on the secondary market.

You could buy on the open market at the current price.....at least you will have it

Rolex is always raising prices...so what will this do to the Grey prices going forward?

If you buy Grey now the watch will be worth more or less down the road...nobody knows....

If you have the money and you really want the watch maybe you should buy it and don’t look back....I think thats what I would do. If you end up losing some money oh well...you can’t take it with you.

I would ask myself this question: did I give any second thought about the batman 2/3 years ago when the shortage wasn't an issue? Or am I buying because now it is hard to get? I never saw the same love for the BLNR before, and I don't think that it was just because of the jubilee bracelet in the current model that people want it.

Anyway, having said that, if money isn't an issue I would go for it.

I'm just guessing, but you didn't get to a point (at least partly) of "money isn't an issue" by overpaying for things throughout life... Is this different? Maybe... but I doubt it.

As others have said, more eloquently than I, if you think the premium might be an issue, then it will be. You will never get the enjoyment out of owning it that you would have had you searched for it and snagged a "good" deal.

If you plan to hold on to it for a long time then I wouldn't be overly concerned about paying a premium. I'd do it!! Likely the market will catch up to and exceed what you paid in a few years. You'll have the value of owning/enjoying it. Tough to put a $$ on that but I think it far exceeds the monetary hit you'll initially feel.

Bought a Daytona Ceramic grey when it first came out and paid a lot less than what it is selling for now. Sure, maybe I could have gotten it for less, but I could also still be waiting for it.

Those prices are stabilizing. Maybe wait a little bit and see if you can get one from an AD.

If money is not an issue, get it and don’t look back. Wear it. Enjoy it. We have no guarantee of how much time we get. Go for it. (For myself, I would buy a WG BLRO and have a magnificent PM piece. In fact, that’s what I did.)

I just don’t like the idea of paying far above retail for something that’s second or third hand. Especially something personal like a watch. Regrettably, I’ve done this in the past but not again
