I like some old school rap, NWA, Snoop, Beasties, Dr Dre, and others, but most of the stuff from the last 15 years really turns me off. The whole thug mentality and denegration of women. It's the grooves I like mostly.

I too have never liked rap, and I cant stand the pathetic gangster image, and I am amazed how it got its name... gangsta rape...why not druggy rap or dealers rap?
I worked in night clubs for quite a few years during the late 80's, 90's and 00's seeing the rap, house, garage, jungle and techno evolve and it was ear torture.

Alright, ENOUGH ALREADY

You guys judge the whole genre by what you hear on the radio, and that's just like judging a book by the cover. Sadly, I must say that you have no clue what you're talking about. Don't think that I am a one-genre type of person - THIS SONG plays in rotation with Tom Petty, The Strokes, Creedence, Modest Mouse, Cake, etc. Don't be narrow-minded, people. I do agree that commercial rap is terrible, but not ALL of it is bad. Next time The Roots are in town, go see the show. If they do their Bob Dylan tribute - it is your lucky day.

A friend once told me that the music you listen to is a hugh reflection of the person you are. I do like a few rap songs... stuff from Lil Wayne, Eminem, and Bone Thugs, but for the most part, I can not stand Rap... im more of a Rock type of guy.

Narrow minded racists all over this town
The cops that shoot and say I'm a clown
Slinging the sh-t while I burn out this hood
Rolex and Tatt champagne we all should

Drink till we're full and then drink some more
Get on the line and next call me some whore
Ridin' the Benz and the Jaguar XL
Bullet in the chest and now I'm in hell.

Just thought I'd try my hand at rap.

Have no idea whether I like Rap or not.

I didn't have the balls to say it MOSCO! I tried to bite my toungue, but I feel the same way. I think it comes from me openingmy mind to and accepting rock/country/oldies! That music was WAS crap to me, before I opened up my mind and listened. I didn't have to listen when others heard or could judge me on it. It was in the privacy of my own home. I experimented with all genres to expose myself to music in general. I can safely say I love it all. Even what I used to hate the most HARD CORE METAL. I used to hate it, but I can get into it now! I mean I can really get into it.

At the end of the day, I asked for opinions, and I thank you all again! You have educated me with your responses! You can listen to what you please. That is what is AWESOME about music.

Did I try to influence and get people thinking a bit, just to see what RAP/HIP HOP is all about? Yes to a certain degree! No matter what genre, the message can be bad! I can think of oldies that didn't use curse words but had "bad" messages in the music.

All in all, enjoy what you hear coming out of those speakers, wear your time pieces in good health, and enjoy life to the fullest......one note at a time!

Fair enough, but at least you LISTENED. See - that's the whole point folks, don't pre-judge.

Bully, you can't at least say the video wasn't creative. Also - the content wasn't about drugs, or 'gangsta', or money. It was just about appreciating the femininity - delivered to you with ZERO disrespect to the lovely ladies

Most of us are guilty of it every now and again - I know I like connecting dots with freckles

I agree Greg it was not like some of the heavy rap , and it wasn't about killing or beating up women. The video was ok, I just can't get into that type of music.

I was chucking people out of clubs when acid house music came around and didn't like it, house then become mainstream, some is better than others but I am not a great fan of that either.Perhaps working with it night after night has something to do with it.

Maybe we just need for the Lils and Youngs to mature.

If this doesn't become "New York, New York" for this generation, I'll be very surprised.

My Dear Luis,

The probability of my liking rap is about the same as my owning this whip below. In other words, <.000001. Little Jewish girls from Philly have more than a modicum of difficulty "going gangsta" if you receive my meaning.

Uh, Faith, that's a hoopty, not a whip.

to OP, I still hear Slick Rick's "Children's Story" about once a week on my way home from work, classic. I heard LL Cool J, "Rock the Bells" the other night, man I hadn't heard that in years. "Goin' back to Cali" was the first song I heard when I walked out of high school for the last day. Whenever I hear it, I am taken back to that moment.

I listened to way too much Eazy-E in HS, too. As for the new stuff, some is okay, but I can skip alot of it.

I have never been a fan of rap other than like, Eminem. Ah, my youth.
That said, Aadil introduced me to a lot of wonderful underground groups like Immortal Technique and Jedi Mind Tricks. Although the way it is delivered isn't really music to my ears, I am always deeply enthralled with the lyrics, which I definitely appreciate. It isn't about money, drugs and "bitches." I HATE that kind of stuff.
