If there are any RM experts I would appreciate the help as I don't want to break anything. I will call AD later today, but not sure that will prove purposeful. ****UPDATE**** I messed with it some more and looks like double sided screw. I'm not going to even attempt it until I see RM AD do it once. It will be a while before I get to an AD. Other option is to buy another spring clasp, but I'm willing to bet that runs into the thousands. I wanted the white strap on for vacation |

This post is for some feedback on RM owners here on TRF:
I am looking to get a Patek next, but after that RM10 ti. My desires have quickly gone from Rolex --> Patek --> RM, or rather getting one of each, though probably two Pateks. I like the classic RM shape of the RM 10 and affordability relative to other RMs. Watch collecting is a slippery slope when you get into Patek and RM waters Some people don't get the RM, but I have been an admirer for 4 years though just recently reawakened my interest, because well I can actually afford it. Almost got a RM35 in 2012 when I have two $100K months in sales in a row. Glad I waited, but the desire I think has been a dormant seed that is now sprouting. I am seeing some used RM10s for $45-$55K. Reason I am interested is I want a watch that can handle my active lifestyle that I can wear even playing tennis, golf, working out, etc. I like the idea of titanium and scratch resistance, shock resistance, light weight, durable, etc. Love the look and appreciate the beauty, depth and engineering of the movement and case. My only concern is how is the reliability these days? Watching Bubba and Rafa you'd think these watches have to be built like a tank. Any problems with owners of RMs here on TRF? I really want a luxury watch that isnt so delicate and I can beat up that is non-rolex and super high end ---> that is an RM |

I am no expert Paul but guess it is probably similar screw design to those on the AP ROO so need 2 screwdrivers, one to hold screw and one to turn other screw to loosen. Prob best see how it's done first though so as not to mess up the screw - good luck, white strap combo will look awesome😄 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

However, your point on RM010, it's less expensive for a reason--not a very desirable RM. As you continue to do your homework, you'll quickly realize chasing the 'lowest cost' RM is probably not a good idea. Why? Because it will hurt even more on the backend. Is the 010 a bad RM--absolutely not. If you really like it, then go with that and don't worry about other factors (but I'm just laying them all out there so you have things to ponder). If it were me I'd stick with the 'safe' pieces from a pricing perspective. Massa 011, Bubba, Rafa, etc. Bottom line get the VERY best price you can upfront, be patient and lastly make absolutely certain the watch has full papers, as RM is VERY particular when it comes to servicing. You will love the brand and the watch, but take your time trying on various pieces before rushing into a buy. Pricing and demand is VERY different today than it was in 2012. If you are trying to stick 'in a budget' then 030 is another option (but falls into the 010 popularity category). My .02. |

I have plenty of time to research, since Patek incoming soon. I do love love the Bubba in black, and RM 11, but what is the entry level pricing? Probably would buy 2nd hand unless there is enough motivation not to. Thanks again P.S. Definitely plan to visit RM boutique when I go to Miami. |

Actually RM 11 being chrono would be perfect to keep my "diver - gmt - chrono" vision alive for a high end 4 piece collection.
Smurf (diver) - 5164 (GMT) - RM11 (Chrono) - 5711 for dress I am liking that vs the Platona for my lifestyle being active. |

Nice watch
I did some research and i have to say I like the RM 10 and it is more in my price range. It seems kinda like a aquanaut to PP and a RO 15400 to AP, entry level but still high quality. Besides no chrono, I don't see what is wrong with having a simple RM with no complications? Is there something else about the RM 10 that I am missing? You are definitely much more knowledgeable on RM. Thanks in advance, Bryant |

Key to ANY RM is the price you buy it as well as paperwork (want one still under warranty). Again, nothing wrong with 010, just make SURE it's the one you want |

Exactly, I would so much more like a B Watson or a baby Nadal compared to a 010… For me the best "affordable" RM duo is Baby Nadal, whichever one, and a Bubba Watson, and for the not in my league ones, the 038, and the 027-02 or 027-01

I like the versatility of the Titanium with different colored straps. I talked to Miami AD today and they said they would give me the tools and show me how to change the variety of straps and show me how. Black, Blue, White, Red, and Leather and at least one other dressier option I forget. I like those options and seems like it can dress up with leather better than white or black ceramic. I lusted for the RM35 four years ago and I do love the Bubba, its just a fairly big jump in price along with less versatility (IMO). And Chrono on RM 11 is not something I need for $40K more (at least retail). Also I am reading its thicker than the RM 10. I think the case is big enough. I am still fairly new to researching RM so I do appreciate all the feedback, I just need to start with an entry level piece and I only want the iconic RM tonneau shape. But this thread is fun... Adminstrator has my vote to open up a Richard Mille subforum |

Bryant, the most important thing I believe is to compare the sizes - the earlier models (5 and 2 for example) have a 45mm case, the 10 is a little larger, and the 11 is larger still. Which size feels right to you? Buying well is important for all RMs, and if you are prepared to buy used, this will give you some protection on any potential future exit. If you can stomach the size of the 11, it is definitely worth the premium over the 10 - it will have better liquidity in the secondary market than the 10, and will always be I suspect the signature RM watch.
From what you are saying, the 10 may be the right size for you, in which case your decision is made - buy well and you will be ok but as I say the liquidity on the 10 won't be the same as an 11. Maybe try and find a Le Mans version of the 10, or even the Abu Dhabi GP version or the Americas version - a bit more interesting than the standard ones. Good luck - first RM very special! As someone who has been buying RM since almost they first came out, I have completely come full circle, started off with a small case (5), gradually bought bigger ones, 10, then 28, then several 11s and a huge 39, and now back to the smallest case size again, with a 2. |

Do you know a trusted source to buy second hand? If RM10s lose more than RM11s, that might be a plus on the second hand market? Also, I have read how important papers are, but what if the watch is outside the warranty? Do papers matter if the warranty is over anyway? I ask because for example I see an RM5 from a trusted seller, but no papers for $39,000. Because this model was discontinued in 2010 the warranty would be up anyway. Not that I am going to get this one, but it is certainly in my budget and my small wrists probably would do best with a RM5 or RM10 (RM2 a bit steep). My one concern about RM (especially buying second hand) is servicing costs as I have read most of this thread and seen the big pricetag for servicing. Thanks again, that covers most of my questions for now. Just need to go to AD and try on the watches. |

The papers are important if the watch has a problem, but also if you come to sell - the value of a watch will be much less than one with. There is the risk that RM may not repair a watch that has no papers. Of course if the watch is outside warranty and does not require a repair or a service, then no issue (other than resale). There is also the question of authenticity and of course if the watch has papers, it can help prove (but is no guarantee of) authenticity. The new RM warranty papers are much more difficult to forge with holographic images. Trusted.com can also help on this if you have the serial number of the watch. As for servicing costs, they have fixed price servicing for the simpler models. Your friendly AD should be able to give you a sense. No more expensive than PP unless there is a big problem or major damage to the casework.

Trying them on as we both mentioned is absolutely mandatory. RM is not a watch brand that you want to get in and flip a month later (unless you have very deep pockets). Excited you are doing your due diligence on RM and look forward to feedback after you have tried several on |

I've noticed a few popping up for sale with no box but have papers. I guess this may effect value same as other brands?
When buying used I have always gone for full box & papers and would most likely go same way with RM. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Don't get me started on RM boxes! When I got my 55 and they gave it to me in a winding box, I said WTF?? The dealer said that was standard now! Even for manual watches! DOH!
The winding boxes came in in about 2013 IIRC. Before then, it was a triple box with the inner one being tonneau shaped. The exotic models came in the old days with a lozenge shaped box with a hinged lid and an outer box but I am not sure what the latest ones have. They also dispensed with the leather document wallet a couple of years back and you get a "book" with the warranty card and manual inside it instead now. If one you buy has the old wallet, do make sure it has the information cards and instruction sheet as well as the warranty one. |

Here is the new warranty 'portfolio'. For those looking at used, look at the 'hologram' Richard Mille on the background of the papers. Love the RM 5 year warranty from day one. |
