Will the speedmaster 60th anniversary become collectible?

I think its a great looking watch but I dont like paying full retail for anything. So I'm hoping it will be an utter failure so I can pick one up later for a discount . But I was thinking the same thing about the latest Snoopy, and I'm kicking myself now about that one.

I got mine yesterday (first one in Hawaii!) and I'll be honest, I bought it to flip it but I am having second thoughts. It really is an absolute stunner! If you can get one, I say go for it.

They are still available for purchase, as of yesterday at least, here in the US. It was not the most popular of the three pieces based on what Omega staff have said.

It's a fantastic looking watch though. The best modern Speedy in my opinion.

The Speedmaster 60th is very interesting to me. I've never been a fan of the brand or the Speedmaster itself (too many iterations of the same design, overabundance of LE's, etc.) - while I get the historical significance, I've always felt that they parlayed the success into something that has diluted the market with all of the Speedmasters out there. HOWEVER..

Upon hearing about this version during Baselworld, I was thoroughly smitten. From never wanting any Omega to thinking about selling off a few favorite pieces to acquire it.

Now my question falls in line with the OP's. Resale value is very important to me, as I almost always only purchase pre-owned, but the pre-owned market on this watch is in the 9k+ range. I've been told by the Omega boutique here in SD that I could possibly get one at retail if I put a full deposit down.

Interested to hear what you all think about the current market, and whether I should suck it up and purchase via the AD now while I have a shot.

Agreed. Resale by greys are going in the upper $8k range to low $9k. If you have the opportunity to buy one at MSRP, I'd do it.

I hear what you're saying. Yes, there are many variations of Speedmasters out there. But, it sure sounds like this one really got your attention. If you have the opportunity, I would jump at it. Then again, I may be biased:

Once all the flippin' is over and all pieces land mostly into true collector hands, they should become more valuable over time. I think this model is lovely and the adjustable clasp is awesome.

there’s so much talk about how this watch sings on the bracelet, but hot damn, the strap it comes with is excellent too. I thought about keeping it mint, but, well, screw it.

I suspect it will be more collectible than most LEs. It would be a terrible shame if it didn't appreciate while the cartoon dog watch has gone up double or more. It is the nicest LE to date, in my opinion....along with the Alaska Project. It will likely drop down to 5k ish for a time since there are MANY for sale on secondary market, then when those are absorbed, prices will climb.
