My first "nice watch" was a Tag Heuer, I think they make great watches :-)
I still have the Tag, but it needs a little TLC |

I have nothing against tags, but they're kinda overpriced now.. I could easily buy an omega or rolex with their pricing..

I have nothing against Tag either, but to me they are just too ordinary. I would rather buy a Rado, Omega, or Breitling.

Cool watch, I love my Heuer Autavia, I would never buy a Heuer with a TAG logo. I think its too much marketing and not enough substence these days. Too many people who know nothing about watches buys TAG's (and Rolexes) present company excluded of course. |

Tag's are very decent watches. I equate Tag in the world of watches to Hugo Boss in the world of business attire. Not the best, far from the worst, acceptable in any circumstance. Tag's are reliable and accurate- they may not contain bespoke parts but for the average person, they'll be happy with the materials, movement and design.
I've owned three Tags and would recommend to anyone looking for a reasonably priced, durable and stylish watch. Tag's skirt around the issue of pretense and they fly under the radar- for someone with similar taste/personality, these watches are perfectly suitable. |

So if I bought a Tag Aquaracer Cal 5 for $1,100 and sold it a year later for $850 and bought a Rolex GMT II for $6,500 and can barely get $4,000 two years later but somehow Rolex is the better value?

I myself had a Tag Carrera reissue(It Had Heuer on the face) It was an ok watch, got it for 500 bucks from a guy that bought it for 1600 in Canada. Had to sell it because the plastic crystal gave me the sweats when I wore the watch. Kept thinking Id bang it into something and scraaatch! it was cool looking though and kept great time with it's ETA 2824-2 movement. But I do feel sorry for anyone a salesman talks into buying one new.

Mine's the original 1970's issue. Actually traded an old sailboat for it.

I did a pricing comparison between the Carrera chronograph and Oris TT3 chronograph. Both uses the ETA 7750 and there is not much of a price difference. The Carrera Day Date which uses the ETA 7750 as well is more expensive by over SGD$1k. Oversized, overpriced and gorgeous . Because Lewis Hamilton endorses it. Interestingly, if you look at the price of Aquaracer 500m Calibre 5 automatic and the quartz variant of the Aquaracer 500m with the exact same design, you will discover that the Calibre 5 movement is not worth much at all!!! I visited an AD and these 2 watches happen to be placed next to one another!! I think the really overpriced ranges are the Grand Carrera and Monaco. |

Don't love them, don't hate them either. I just won't be buying one again as I felt they weren't great quality for the money.

Picked up a Tag waf1110 when Fortunoff went out of business for $800.00 out the door. I like it so much I picked up a mint blue face waf1113 from a guy off ebay for $500.00. I like them both. Both are quartz & look great..

I've purchased two Tag Aquaracers in my day. The first one cost me about $1300 on the gray market and I sold it for about $900 earlier this year.
I have another one that I picked up for about 50% off of the $3500 MSRP from an AD and no one wants that one. And that one's a COSC Tag, too! I'm in agreement with a lot of these comments: No Tag for me. Never again. |

This topic is a bit emotional to me. Even for an obsessive compulsive watch guy (like many of you), Tag is the ONLY luxury brand I could not love no matter how hard I tried. Don't know much about the movement, but the case design and surface treatment never work for me. Most of them actually look ugly. The recent models look much better but I consider them overpriced without a luscious history or any handsome vintage model I can crave.

Would never get another quartz tag (my first "proper" watch). It's a terrible value proposition. The Monaco however, still owns its segment quite well.

Tag has the same problem with Hugo Boss; they seem great, till you get to know about better alternatives. Then people "in the know" won't touch em with a 10 feet poll (ever been to STyleforum and mention a Hugo Boss suit?) |

I think Tags are ok watches but they have been very unlucky for me.
The first I bought used from the states. Paid $600 plus when it arrived I had to pay duty and vat. Only when I opened the box it was empty. Contacted seller sent insurance claim and no more contact. So seller could have watch and insurance ? Contacted customs. Can I prove I didn't receive watch. No. Next Tag bought new in FL. Had it stolen from home while at work. next Tag 6000 had trouble with screws holding on strap. Quoted £1000+ for new case. next attempt this month. Tag chrono from the bay. Paid 28 Oct. still not here. applied for refund. Tags are bad for me.

I did the sums. Don't think i can get what i want from Omega and IWC with the price of a brand new Carrera Calibre 16.
IMO, Tags make decent watches good for daily wear. But don't set your expectations too high. Looks good on the outside. What grade of ETA movements do they use? |
