tag heuer hate
So, I get the fact that the same movement and materials can be had in a watch for 1/3 the price of a tag...and for this reason I would never buy a brand new tag or pay anything above roughly 50% of msrp. However, would some of the anti-tag people here ever consider a well cared for and well priced used tag...or can you just not bear the thought of owning one?

Not when you can get an Omega for the same price. I'd never buy one.

I like Tag watches. I don't buy watches because of their movement, design or prestige. I only buy watches I like.

I would not but a Tag, many watches Id rather buy for more or even less money.
Just never been a fan of Tags. Just a personal choice. If its what you like and you are happy with the price you pay you should get it! Post pics when you do.

I don't HATE tag. The lack of respect on my part stems from the fact that I had a hard time progressing from tag to Rolex because no one wanted to buy any of my tags when it came time to sell.
Sure I'd wear one, but I'll be damned before I plunk hard earned money on another. |

For the price of (even a used auto.Tag) I'd still much rather spend just a LITTLE more $$ and get a used Omega. Tag's a great watches, don't get me wrong, I'd just rather have an Omega, Pan, IWC, Rolex, or even a Seiko lol over a Tag any day of the week.

My first "real" watch was a Tag many years ago. The bracelet fell apart (Tag even admitted there had been an issue) but the warranty didn't cover bracelets or straps!
$200 later I had a new bracelet. The movement is in dire need of a service, but the cost would be equal to or greater than the value of the watch. Pity, but I simply let it sit. Not my watch, but a photo of one just like it... |

Tag has outpriced themselves recently. I'd rather get an IWC than a comparably price TAG.

I don't hate Tags, I simply stongly dislike the brand. I really don't like the way a lot of their watches look.

Styling is my biggest issue with Tags, it just doesn't appeal to me. But I certainly don't hate them. Life is too short to waste energy hating inanimate objects like watches. Like Kevin said above, something like an Omega appeals to me much more for the same money.

Nothing wrong with Tags. In fact my first Swiss watch was a Tag from my mother in law. I just think that the marketing and strategy guys at Tag have done a poor job of positioning themselves. They price the MSRP way too high, for the perceived value ppl get for their $$$. Hence the comments above that suggest there are "better" watches for the same or similar price. There are some storming deals to be had on Tags though, but this also tends to detract / dilute the brand value/recognition.

Obviously I am a TAG fan- to me there are three distinct eras.
- The Heuer era that ended in about 1984. Some incredible watches, including the Autavia, Monaco, Silverstone. The development of the world's first automatic Chronograph (calibre 11) and one of the first high-end quartz movements (Heuer Chronosplit) - The early TAG Years: The 1000, 2000, 4000, and S/el era. No one loves this era- full of generic ETA movements and some questionable two-tone styling (esp. the S/el - The LVMH years: I see some real innovation coming through- Carrera 360, Monaco 24, Monaco V4, etc. The problem is that for most people, the Heuer years are long gone and its still this middle period that they think of when TAGs are discussed. Like everything, time will tell- but when you look at the watches and movements being made today, I'm confident that the brand value will increase over time. |

I like the Heuer brand prior to the merge to become Tag Heuer. I haven't seen one tag that I would like for my personal collection, but they are great starter watches when purchased used. Way over priced for what they are.

Some of the designs such as the Carrera are quite nice - whilst I find the lLink and Kirium to be quite hideous.

Nice watches!
look lovely and stylish... However depreciation is severe, and when you go to sell it, no1 wants to know you or return your call. Nairn |

My sister, BIL and father wear TAG Heuer watches. My brother, mother, wife and I wear Rolex (and I got an Omega instead of a TAG before I could justify the expense of Rolex). Both are nice.

MSRP is rarely followed. You could probably get that watch at 40-50% off.
I've read some comments here about resale but resale is also a relative term, depending on where you are. For instance, in a lot of parts of Asia, Tag is considered to be a premier brand, over Oris, Longines, Tissot etc...and would fetch a good price. Of course, next to Patek, Vacheron, Tag would be dismissed as just a fashion watch but there are some WIS circles that consider Rolex to be "entry level," so go figure.

I have an aquatimer that I really like -
MSRP is $1,800 - I paid $650 used. So I feel I got my money's worth. But never in a million years would I pay MSRP for one. And once you get into the $1,500/$2,000 range - Omega is far better |

I got a 2000 midsized diver for about $50, so that was probably worth it.
Brother found a kirium at a flea market for a few bucks. Sellers assumed it was fake. It wasn't. Boss got an Aquaracer Chrono quartz new for $850, which I think is a good deal. |

Tag's dont hold value as well as something like Rolex/Panerai but if you look into it, it's similar to other brands like JLC in that regard. A 50% hit is the usual.
The one thing about Tag that I don't like is that there is no personalization to it. When you buy one at a near luxury watch cost, you get a generic Tag box with a generic warranty card - your name doesn't even go on it. Add to that the lousy service centers that take months to service your watch and the commonplace issue of not being able to service older watches - and Tag quickly loses its luster with me. It's a fashion brand with nice designs, but no staying power IMO.

was given a TAG by my parents when i graduated grade school! it was my 1st swiss watch! it was a series 2000 automatic...
but mine was a lemon! it has been to the service center more times that the total cost of servicing them was equal or more than the cost of the watch! after i got my rolex for college, and after it got wrecked again, i simply put it in the drawer until last year (so that makes it more than 12 years). TAG Service center was charging me again the whole cost of the watch... so essentially i would have paid 3x the price after all the repairs it had + the cost of the watch! decided to have it repaired by some watch repair dude my bro-in-law knows. cost me less the $30. it sees some action every now and then. but would agree with most. for the price, i'd rather get an omega, IWC, breitling, or even an Oris for the price of a TAG. |
