Celebration dials are out?

While times are different, had there been a TRF-like board when the first 6239 exotic dialed Daytona hit the ADs, the uproar would likely be the same as we see today for the Celebration dial.

(what you might not know is that when the first Daytona with an "exotic" dial hit the market in the 1960s, no serious Rolex buyer wanted it.)

That is PLN’s 6239 above

It appealed to Joanne when she bought it and had its caseback engraved DRIVE CAREFULLY ME.

Could we be on the cusp of another spike?

Laughable. For that price you could get a WG Meteorite GMT and still have plenty of cash left over.

For the price we pay for watches that tell the time less accurately than a $10 quartz watch we are all idiots

Not my cup of tea. Unless you've got the OP's in all the colours and this would finish off the set I just don't see the appeal.

Now I do really like the Celebration dial. I have the “expression of interest” sorted at two AD’s. Both have said I might not actually get one as it will be a limited production run, scarce item ya da ya da yah!

So I’ll wait and see but I certainly will not be buying one at a premium over list

Now 4 postings on Chrono24 with 3 around the USD 40,000 Mark. I reckon they all have the same one just playing pass the buck!
I think give a few weeks will settle a bit but I reckon this is going to be pretty much 'Unobtanium' for most of us......

I bet if these were readily available, the vast majority of people clamoring for them would be high school girls. But since they're expected to be "rare," every collector/financial buyer is chasing them.

AD said they had a lot of interest in the 41 but not so much in 36. This surprised me a little as i could see 36 as a fun unisex watch to share with a partner etc. sounded like if you wanted 36 celebration it was possible, not easy but possible.

Flipping of any product is predatory and doesn't produce anything. It is a net loss to society. I am not interested in trying to excuse it.

I enjoy brightly colored dials on watches, but not on a Rolex. I have 3 Seiko Rowing Blazers, in pink, lime green, and the multicolored index one. My initial reaction to the Celebration dial was, “Oh My, that’s hideous! “ My favorite of the new OP’s:

That’s a pretty high horse you are sitting on

I bet you climb down off it to flip stocks and property for a profit and then get back on it when you gallop to an AD to buy a Daytona with the profits and get told you have to wait

Either way, wishing someone to die is pretty horrific behavior. Certainly worse behavior than someone flipping a watch.

I was surprised that all of the OP’s are hard to get. Being non- sport models, and the lowest priced In the lineup, I didn’t expect there to be such a demand. I had to wait over a year for one.

lunacy.

Frankly speaking, sick of the chancer profiteering in this hobby.

Before anyone says it, I know list price is not sold price. But still, despite all this pain of lists and games, these pieces (wether you like them or not) are still making their way into the hands of the unclean.

I think part of the demand is because they're cheap (relatively speaking) - i.e. accessible.

That, and funky colours that appeal to the Insta-crowd.

Respect your right to an opinion on not wanting to have a Celebration dialed Oyster Perpetual.

Confused about the pivot to the death wish for the dealer. Why in particular do you believe the Chrono24 seller should die?

And then why double down on flippers? The essence of free enterprise is selling for a profit.

By extension you disrespect any TRF boutique sponsor and other trusted sellers who routinely offer high-demand watches at multiples above MSRP. Like an Aquanaut, a 116500, a Platona, etc.

Can you explain that?
* BTW - not a rant, just some questions raised by your posts on the topic.

I know everyone has different taste, but you can get a solid gold Day Date with an onyx dial for the same price or less

This is certainly one of the factors at play. All stainless Rolex pieces need to be thrown into this category. Less expensive-more demand… But, this isn’t happening in a vacuum. At the end of the day, Rolex makes a great product.

41mm sold at auction on Facebook for $28.2k. Lower than I expected (based on 41mm Tiffany dials), but still a ton of money.

Always fun to see what the first one goes for, but I follow these watch guys on TikTok and the "watchesbyjul" lady did get herself a celebration dial a couple of weeks back.

The hatred in this thread is really out there. Come down off it, we’re talking about a watch dial.
