5524 Straps and Pins

Based on what I’ve read on TRF, I’ve ordered a couple after market straps for my 5524G. I ordered a 21mm and a 22mm as it sounded like both would fit, one of them being a NATO.

Can I reuse the quick release bars that came on my strap? If not, what size pins should I use? I thought I read it’s actually 21.1mm lug width and want to make sure the strap is secure!

I ordered two 21mm leather straps from ‘finwatchstraps’ off Etsy based on some recommendations here. I’m not as worried about those as I’ve read I can modify (cut) them to fit the quick release.

I’ve also ordered a Barton leather NATO (22mm) and a 21mm Barton Canvas strap with built in quick release.

For the NATO, do I just need to use standard 21mm spring bars? I’ve never used a NATO before.

Mine were 20mm

But admittedly, 21 may well fit better

If there's enough play with the "loop" of the strap where the bar goes through should be ok
If not, cut the strap a tiny bit

I use the Patek original bars still... And have had a lot of enjoyment. I've got a strap for every season and reason now

Just don't get too "perfect" about it all, you gotta Remember, "they're not Patek" but they are fun

You will definitely need to cut the strap to re-use the white gold spring bars.
If you use st st spring bars instead then each movement of the wrist will wear away at the lug hole and open it up.

Thank you for this heads up, I wouldn't have thought of that. I will definitely look to utilize my WG spring bars where possible. Will that type of quick release spring bar work with a NATO or will it rub or accidentally get pushed loose?

Will an AD sell extra spring bars and can you pick up ones without the quick release?

Yes an AD will sell you springbars. I ordered two pair because i like to have my (after market) straps ready to be swapped at any moment. The first strap has been delivered and the bars are fitted.
I believe they cost about 150 USD per pair (not sure

Picked up a $20 canvas strap (Barton) from Amazon and love it! I love a strap that is not tapered! I had to remove the SS spring bars and put in the stock WG ones. Grey is definitely a great match, already thinking of a distressed grey leather strap

Would you be worried using such a cheap ($) strap on a watch? Seems sturdy and secure (PP spring bars), I’m mostly worried about the canvas scratching the case.
