Hello! I think that I need some help from people with more knowledge than me in Patek collecting ...
I have been collecting watches for more than 15 years now, mostly Rolex, IWC and Omega. Planning to buy my first Patek. I have been interested in 5524g or r. I like the look of the 5524r, but may be a little too flashy... I can obtain a Tiffany stamped 5524g in mint condition for msrp from a friend who is consolidating his collection at this time, or I can get the 5524r from an AD without the T stamp for the same price. Which one would you go for and why?

I personally would go for a brand new one from the AD for multiple reasons..... Main one being is that it will have your name on the certificate, to me personally that means more than anything else..... Secondly, you would show your AD that you are a loyal and by giving them business you will get pieces in the future that you want. Also take into consideration that it is NEW from the AD......

Having the pleasure to own both the G and the R I like the 5524G more, it has great presence and feels good on the wrist without it being to flashy. The R is a bit much and for that reason I hardly wear it.
Yes owning a cobranding Patek is a great opportunity but as I said I want my name on the papers and everything does not matter to me personally.

I would go with the one that you like the most. I have seen both in person, the G and the R are very different in ascetics. Don't get one just for the T-Stamp unless you have a strong enough affinity to the brand that the less favorable color isn't a deal breaker.

As for used vs new, I don't care about my name on the cert, I got mine from someone in Switzerland, so I'll be honest, I liked that it was from the motherland more than from an AD wherever I live in the US. After 15 minutes on your wrist, this watch will be used and show signs of it (scratches).

Personally, given these options I'd take the 5524G T stamped. Same price, I prefer the WG and an added T-Stamp bonus (rare from what I have seen on 5524G) if ever looking to resale.

There is a catch, the AD do not always sell the stock that we want.
I would pay AD over the market price if they have stock I wanted...but hell, the Rolex often put the stock sport model as display only makes your saliva drips all over your mouth and don’t know what more you can do than pull the trigger at grey market at whatever price it sell.

Very tempted to go for the T stamped 5524g which is pristine , but I would like to have my name on the papers considering that this will be my first Patek ... hard to decide

Let me throw another variable in the picture. Another very tempting proposition would be to get instead a platinum Daytona. I know, different watches and the price difference is about 25-30 thousand from AD. Worth it?

Not a fan of Daytona’s, too small imo, so I would definitely not go that way. I think the T-stamp is more unique that name on papers. I do get the appeal of papers, but you don't wear papers. You may lose the papers but they are not insured. Papers to me matter as part of a complete set, but I’ve never even looked at my papers to care enough that someone else’s name is on them. That’s why I like AP, they just have a card with no ones name on it. I personally care more about worn vs. unworn. However, even that, if its polished up nice like from one of the TS on TRF, thats good enough for me. I just don’t want to see someone else’s scratches on my watch!

The name on the papers is not a deal breaker for me. The provenance and the finish of the watch are impeccable. As I mentioned, it’s coming from a friend collector of mine and I am positive that the watch has not been worn more the a few times. He is taking good care of his watches ... The watch is less than 1 year old
I agree that the 5524 is a more versatile watch and I already gave a C white Daytona . And I don’t own a Patek yet. I dress pretty casually and my eyes are not getting any younger, so I think that the legibility is much better with the 5524g. Very tempting:)

The great thing about the 5524 is that it's an everydaysort of watch. If you think the R is too flashy it may restrict the amount you wear it. That would be a shame.

I am planning to use it in rotation and I think that the 5524g fits the bill better.
