Sounds like you would prefer the gmt over the sub. Which is ultimately more useful to you? Which watch speaks to you more? There is another option - SubC with date. Still have a sub and have the date.

As for movements, there is nothing wrong with the existing movement. Is having more power reserve nice? Yes but how often are you switching watches? If you’re wearing your watch regularly, you never worry about power.

Finally, it’s nice having your name on the card but you don’t wear your warranty card. I haven’t seen my warranty card since I’ve bought my watches.

Good luck in your decision.

Yes I would do this. The 116710 black dial green GMT hand, which I believe you are referencing is a great watch. The case design is similar to the 6 digit sub. I think you will appreciate the practicality of the GMT and date function. Go For it.

As a guy who is in the fortunate position of owning both watches,

I like the GMT function because I travel frequently. When I first started thinking about Rolex, it was the GMT that excited me. An extra 200m water resistance makes no difference to me. I am a certified diver, but I will never be below 100m on purpose. The subs timing bezel with 120 clicks is a bit better for timing things like cooking times, but really doesn’t matter too much.

When I look at these watches on my wrist, I love the black/SS look, it’s pretty much perfect for everyday use, but I think I like the sub better. I can’t explain why, maybe having half as many numbers make the sub bezel less busy but again it’s marginal.

Personally I think for a very similar look, with a date, the 116600 Sea Dweller is a very good choice. If GMT function is important it’s a no brainer get the GMT. If it’s just what looks best on your wrist, you have to decide, but I’d rank them like this 114060>116600>116710, but the differences are very slight.

I have both Subc and Blnr. If I was making a one watch move I'd go for an LN and purchase a Sub glidelock to go with it.

Great insight. Can I ask which gets more wrist time?

I struggled with this decision. I went with the Sub just because I don't use the GMT function.

Keep the Submariner and add the GMT Master II. Those two watches would complement themselves nicely.

You can’t go wrong with either..I personally prefer the cleaner look of the ND sub but if it’s an even trade, you’re getting a bit more value in terms of features with a gmt, especially since you said you travel a lot. Not to mention the gmt is a less common watch for the same money. Go with your gut on this one..

They have different looks. It is personal preference. Most days I like the GMT, sometimes I like the Sub!😎

The card with your name on it will live in the box but your priorities as you stated them are for date and the GMT function! Plus there’s something to be said about owning a discontinued watch that you want!

Gmt should be bi coloured bezel. I bought a lightly used SubC ND in Feb. Could’ve had a 116710ln for a bit less and the next fortnight it’s discontinued and the price rockets.

Do I regret it? Not really. Gmt ln is a great looking watch but the whole point of gmt is that it’s bi coloured bezel and day and night differentiates.

In the medium term, depending what happens to sub updates my money is on the 114060 doing better but since I have zero intention of ever selling it’s a non issue.

Tbh you can’t lose. They are great watches so whatever you decide will provide years of dependable and stylish super case action. Enjoy.

Hi all, thanks for all the great input. I have decided to keep the Sub and get the GMT at some point in the future. Btw, would have been a trade+ some cash on my end. Ended up deciding wasnt worth it for the LN. Possibly for the Batman, but will save that decision for another day. Enjoy the weekend!

Good choice, especially if it wasn’t going to be an even trade..now you have one of the cleanest, most timeless watches of all time, and saved a few bucks to get a head start on your next purchase.

I own 5 GMT’s so obviously I like them a lot and feel they are the most versatile watches, but I don’t like any of the Rolex GMT’s with the polished center links oyster bracelet. It is a scratch magnet and frankly I wish they would get rid of it. You might want t9 consider a 16710 instead or the BLRO / BLNR with the jubilee bracelet, which by the way is extreme comfortable. Another option, would be to keep your sub, which is a great watch, maxi case, maxi dial, it definitely will. Come a classic some day... anyways you could buy a Tudor GMT. I owned a Tudor as well, it’s a fantastic watch, and oddly enough the Luminova on the Tudor is a little brighter than the Rolex BLRO.

I’d say about equal, I do try to mix it up as much as possible.

I agree with most here to keep the ND sub and potentially buying the 2 colored bezel GMT in the future. Plus you do have a purchase history with and AD something you should hold onto. If Iam you I would register my name onto the BLRO list and hoping to get that in 1-2 years time. All the best.

I thought you're talking about the new GMTs. If you're talking about the old GMT with green GMT hand then yes, I think it also has the old movement. But then, it makes no sense since from what I see online, the old GMT is more expensive now than the new one bought from an AD at retail store.
So my advise is to get the one of the new GMTs, definitely.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, as I dont how a ton about movements.

My opinion, i love the 114060 and prefer a GMT with 2 coloured bezel.

I also prefer a GMT with a colored bezel over the 116710LN.

The 116710LN, like the 114060 has a 31XX series movement, so that is a wash.

While the GMT feature is very useful, I think the Black Cerachrom is much nicer on the Sun. The Sub bezel has thinner, more subtle font, so it really enables the Cerachrom to show. While the GMT bezel has bigger, bolder numbering, so the numbers are more of a focus, as opposed to the Cerachrom.

I would enjoy the Sub you have, at least give it a year or so. Wait until the time it right to get a GMT with a colored bezel.

Keep the Sub and buy a G-Shock. In a few weeks you'll be tired of GMT and talking yourself into something else.
