Congrats on the engagement. Have you ever thought of a Baume & Mercier or a Longines? They have several models for less than $3K.

I owned a B&M and while I never had any problems with it
I just sold it and would never own another....

Its simply a designer watch.

Chopard is nice and I looked at a couple (I will own one) BUT again it wont be a forever watch for me Id flip em.

The PAM 210 is NICE and wears well BUT I don't like the Radiomar... I am looking at a couple PAMS though. A Blue ND Tudor Snowflake sub would be GREAT (I have someone looking) and I am also still considering a White EXP II BUT I think one Id want would be more than I am spending now as I want a recent one with the engraving for some stupid reason

I've seen many Explorer II around and below 3K, check around a bit more. All had box and paperwork as well. White or black you can't go wrong there! I believe this is the best bang for the buck buying preowned Rolex.

What type of watch are you looking for? Loads of watches in that price range. Check out prestigetime.com, do an advanced search and put all your specs in. The search engine automatically lists all the watches with your parameters.

PS
to those who said a vacation...
Shes going to the Mayan Peninsula Sat with her twin sis and their best friend.

Shes going to Dallas in April.

She wanted to take me away for my BDay in March instead of a watch but I just have too much going on to get away. We are going to do a cruise around the Holidays and I am sure we will run on a few vacations first.

I am really thinking the Exp II is the way to go.

As for what kind of watch I am looking for.... Something I can wear anywhere, own for years and pass on to a child someday. I think the Exp II covers all the bases, I can wear it when we travel and smile having a nice watch on BUT not worry about someone saying OH thats a Rolex, I think that the Exp II is one of the most low key Rolex watches made. I wish I could get an AP RO as that would fill the role as well BUT I will wait for the AP Dual Time in my future.

As for Panerai.... I am talking to a few people about some trades for my SD and my DSSD some of which involve me getting a Panerai :)

In that case, you WILL be able to find a nice example for or under $3K. Heck, there's two right here in my local CL:

http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/jwl/1036482865.html

http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/jwl/1009203973.html

Both appear to be K-Serial numbers, so "future vintage" for you!

I am in a similar situation for my 40th birthday.

I love the omega, but already have a seamaster(which i would recomend to you, and it is within your price range). It is my everyday watch and wear it to the gym. extremely tough. I had it polished and looks like new.

I am leaning toward the breitling steel fish white dial steel pilot braclet. Retail around 3k. prob pay around 2k. Dont kno if you like breitling, but this is also a great watch for the money.

Either way you cant lose. She could have bought you a SS timex and got mad when you werent wearing it.

Good luck!
Congrats on your engagment

you can get a omega speedmaster AND ernst benz for $3,000 used.

both go for about $1,500

then you have a true classic and one not seen much.

OMEGA GMT Chronometer with the white dial (or even the Black dial if you prefer) and still have plenty of change left over!!

Congrats on getting engaged!

If you're ok with preowned, a recent Omega 3573.50 sapphire sandwich example costs approx US$2k.

Either an Omega or a nice preowned Rolex.
