Daytona Tachymeter numbers orientation
Many thanks to Rolexpert, who in another thread pointed out something that I believed about the All Gold Daytonas was incorrect. On my SS, the numbers as you curve around the bottom of the dial, are orientated up, so as to be easy to read (I guess). In other words, the 120 at the bottom appears straight up and down. See pic below. On the WG model, the numbers continue the orienation around the bottom of the circle, so the 120, is upside down. I thought this was the case on all Golds, but was proven wrong when shown this picture of the YG model, the 120 is upright, just like my SS.
So, the question is: Why? The obvious answer is to distinguish between the SS and the WG, but is this really effective? If anyone knowledgable enough to recognize the orientation of the 120, would surely be close enough to the watch to also notice the dial, the SS only has one option where the WG has several, and none appear the same as the SS. Is there some other reason I'm missing as to why Rolex would set those specific orientations? |

I thought the red hands are supposed to help distinguish the WG model from the SS
