The 60 miles is a short distance. You don’t think cartels have cars? Ask yourself this question. How did those cartels members get on the properties of a SAFE five star resort to in Cancun? Did you ever stop to think that one of them might work there? Reading the whole story and not THINKING about what you read is a waste of time.

In 2017 the FBI investigated 117 kidnappings in Mexico, of that 66 were Americans. The kidnappers targeted those they think might have money. Guess what? walking around with a rolex qualifies. If they find out that all you have is a Rolex and no ransom money guess what they’re going to do to you? Take you back to the hotel?

go where ever you want in Mexico with your Rolex but is is not in your place to tell others it’s ok to do the same.

I am starting to think that you, 123 blueface and that other guy might have some personal connections to Mexico in some way. Perhaps even a financial incentive to promote tourism in Mexico. I am done with you three!

What are you insinuating? Do you know me at all? Do you have the ability to argue without having to insult or make disgusting insinuations? You are the worst forum user I have ever encountered and I hope that the forum moderation will intervene because you can't call yourself a racist and make disgusting insinuations without knowing the people.

Glass house if I even saw one.

Consider comparing the number of headlines of mass shooting/other bad stuff happening in the US versus in Mexico. Just seriously consider that.

To the rest of the world, the USA looks like one of the most dangerous places on Earth.

I’m not arguing for or against anyone to do anything. As I said it’s a personal preference and to each their own. Never asked in this thread “is it safe”. A few trolls have spun it that way and the thread has gone off the rails.

I don’t give a hoot about you to want to know you, nor do I care if you are insulted because of what I said. I didn’t seek you out to start this argument not did I start out with calling you a profound ignorant like you did me when you don’t even know me. “Those who live in glasshouse ....”.

You still don't understand the meaning of ignorance. I can't fight against that.

Anyone vacationing in Mexico over the holidays? Leaving the Rolex at home?

I am with you on this. They can’t not wear their watch for one or two weeks out of the year. Watch is priority over family. Ridiculous.

I’ll oblige as it’s just a watch (was considering sub ND) though I’m sure I’ll run into many folks in the resorts wearing nice time pieces.

Yes, she is a bit paranoid but her heart is in the right place. So the watches are going to the bank vault to give her peace of mind.

Anyone else heading down south? Taking your Rolex?

Will you be bringing any children with you? If so, I would urge to play on the safer side and not attract too much unwanted attention

Fine....I’m ignorant, and you are not racist. Does that satisfy your delicate sensibility?
Would you be insulted if I said you are uneducated or unsophisticated? Because that is the precise dictionary definition of ignorant.

My point was; IF YOU BELIEVE that Mexico is such a bullet ridden cesspool of crime and violence, why would you take your family on vacation there? A watch is totally irrelevant. It's not even a watch issue, this doesn't even belong in ROLEX GENERAL DISCUSSION. There should be a sub-forum for scared travelers.

I've gone to Playa Del Carmen, Cozumel or Isla Mujeres about every year since 2010, and don't hide in an all-inclusive resort. We rent AirBnb's and take Collectivos from town to town. I've always kept a low profile and used rudimentary/polite Spanish. I pay in pesos and tip in dollars. And have never felt threatened.

The area has definitely taken a turn for the worse in regards to drugs. And PDC is becoming more overcrowded and touristy by the month.

Most will assume your Rolex is a fake.

Is that what you’ve gleamed from my post? You think my wife is really concerned about my petty watch collection?

Anyhow, I’m bowing out of this thread as the definition of insanity is at play here. Thanks to those who shared your opinions on this matter, without resorting to negativity.

Last comment is that it’s not crazy or immoral to believe it is still safe to vacation in Mexico with family, but perhaps safer without attracting unnecessary attention wearing ostentatious jewelry.

I've clearly stated I don't believe it to be a watch issue at all. I also wasn't particularly addressing you, as you've quoted my response addressed to another poster. Regardless, I wish you and your family well on your vacation.
