Did you save the papers from your vintage purchase?
I am directing this question to original purchasers of 30, 40 and 50 yr old Rolex's. When my future wife and I visited a large jewelry store in Chicago's main jewelry building to buy her engagement ring 40 yrs ago we also asked the owner if he could get us a Pepsi 1675. He did and we were happy. We got the box, instruction book and brown chronometer seal but no stamped warranty certificate. We sort of treated the watch as just another expensive piece of jewelry. Were we the exception back then? Did most Rolex buyers back then religiously head to ADs? Did you treat the box and papers as heirlooms?

Box, calendar cards, brochures, anchors, passport holders, seals etc were given to us kids to play with. My father only kept the papers for the warranty in the 70s.

When I purchased my Submariner in 1987, I put the box and all of it's contents on a shelf at home. It's still sitting where I put it.

No seriously this is a very good question!... if Rolex was just a tool watch back then my guess is very few people kept the original box and papers and stuff? |

Not many full sets around. It makes the watch complete to have box, papers and attachments. Nice posts, guys.
