It occurred to me that I didn’t give you any alternatives.
I have had the Balvenie 15 many times and had a couple bottles years ago.
I don’t remember it being particularly extraordinary, though good enough to drink at happy hour and sip at home. So, solid. But not good enough for me to grab a few back up bottles.
Having said that consider these that you should be able to find. I have all in my cabinet now.
Glenfiddich 14 bourbon barrel. Not the most complex, but not too oaky. Add a couple drops of water. It opens to my nose/palate.
Glenlivet Nadurra 16. Cask strength and not chill filtered. This is a winner. I actually like this one raw and straight. For manly men.

It’s probably the best of the 3 by a good margin, but it looks like it’s replaced by a no age statement version. 3 back up bottles. It’s the real deal. Sad to see it replaced, but I’d wager unless you’re a big whisky snob that it’s very similar and worth a try. I’ll buy one next spring probably and save the 16s.
Glenmorangie Astar. It wasn’t my favorite, but good for the price and probably better than the GL14 and more complex.
Update us if you find a winner we should try.

The Islay representative in the 'Classic Malts' series is a deep, dry and exceptionally peaty bruiser. Probably the most pungent of all Islay malts, Lagavulin is not for the faint-hearted but inspires fanatical devotion in its many followers.

I personally think this is great stuff but it’s still being made so your bottle hasn’t increased in value. They don’t age in the bottle so the 20 years hasn’t done much for it. It still sells for about £55 in the U.K. I’m guessing somebody might pay a little less for yours. Probably best to keep it and offer to guests that drink peaty whisky.
