Their prices quickly went back to where they had been. If you exclude that brief price fluctuation I’m not sure there was ever any real evidence of market softening in these parts.

The price increase makes perfect sense. It won't change a thing.

I notice, in Canada anyway, Explorer, Explorer II and OP 39 only had very marginal increases, where things like most SS sports models and even 37 mm YM and DJ36 seem to have price moves closer to 10%.

In all honesty, let's look at things with some perspective. I just bought a 116000 three weeks ago, which went up 2.5% or so today. So after the 13% sales tax, it came to $6950. Now, the 114060 costs $10,500 CAD after sales tax in Ontario. What does the extra $3.5k get you? Glidelock, timing bezel, 300m WR, "Submariner" script on your watch? It has the exact same movement as my 116000, which is a movement that has been in watches for nearly 2 decades with some updates here and there. In today's competitive market, the 3130 offers a minimum amount of PR at only 48hrs. Yes, it is bulletproof, but I don't need a 114060 to have it. Perhaps if they upgraded the movement and increased the price, I could possibly stomach it. Respectfully, please don't @ me with "but the Sub has so much history" because we could debate that the Oyster Perpetual has ~20 years more history than the Submariner. |

Price increase as promised then. And only time will tell if the increase is a good move against the “riff raft”

Price increases happen, just like property tax increases, cost of living, etc. Personally, of course I don't like them but I never worry or get angry about things I have no power to change. It's a waste of time and energy and totally unproductive. It took me YEARS to adopt his attitude and things still bug me, but I do my best to ignore annoyances in life. My brother, gets explosive mad about the littlest, stupidest irritations which makes no sense to me. He's my "George Costanza do the opposite" benchmark.
We all enjoy Rolex watches and while they're not perfect, hard to get sometimes and set in their ways, I think they're still a good value. They last for decades, they're supported by their service department and are admired by many. Any product that lasts for many years with multi generations owning passed along family heirloom and excellent value retention well, that's a product in which occasional price hikes are reasonable. Again, for the money a Rolex watch is a good value despite the initial cost hit. Only my opinion, but give it some thought. Sent from my SM-A520W using Tapatalk |

They’re hardly just lying around in AD windows, anyway it was the right thing for Rolex to do. There may be other brands out there better suited for you |

Ideally then someone who can’t stretch to a submariner would look at a Black Bay (rather than Omega/Tag etc) |

You can buy two really good pre-owned Watches from other brands for the same price as a Rolex. I find it hilarious that people on here pretend to love their Rolexes when in reality many of them are only interested in their monetary value. |

Surprised precious metal hasn’t been mentioned, specifically Everose. Everose DD40 is now $39,250 so basically 40k USD before tax. Pretty steep given my platinum DD40 was acquired for not much more
