NYE INCOMING- first GS 9F

Over the last two years I’ve become a huge GS fan and my interest and enthusiasm over that time has supeceded my enthusiasm for Rolex (of which I am fortunate to have a few, and which has nothing to do w the msrp Rolex “shortage”.

Initially I was skeptical about the merits of the brand , especially about a $3k battery powered watch! Needless to say that has totally changed , and today I received my first quartz 9F GS, the SBGN003. Fit into my collection as a grab-and-go watch that also works for crossing time zones and withstanding swimming, mtn biking, saunas, gym , etc.

As expected, the finishing is fantastic and the way the second hand tics (different than most quartz watches - see Tim Mosso’s video) is very cool. Initially I thought I was going to get the blue dial (SBGN005), but when the black dial was brought out for me to see, it just seemed much cooler - the black is sooooo deep and rich, the color-matched date wheel (vs white on blue dial) and the orange gmt hand (vs red on blue dial) just work really well together to give it a super cool vibe.

Below is the first (iPhone) pic.. will try to shoot better ones later. A big thanks to Evan at exquisitetimepieces ... my third transaction with him, each one flawless , and also a genuinely nice and knowledgeable guy both over text , email, and in person at the Naples store.

Congrats on the purchase! The 9F quartz is a great movement. I also never thought that I would go for a "quartz" watch, but the technology behind the 9F is thoughtful and the watch case and dial is every bit Grand Seiko with it's level of finishing and polish.

9F's double-tick to move the heavier second-hand was not something that I knew about until I did some more digging. If you have a high enough frame rate camera, you can see the double step of the second hand in slow motion.

Truly a great watch that is low maintenance and packs aesthetics + functionality.

Congrats! GS make some fine quartz watches. Just for my info, how long can the battery last?

Agreed! Watching videos about the 9F movement was inspiring!

Ha. Ha. Ha..... Interestingly I have a polar 16570 and was considering getting it in black as well. The only similarity between the 16570 and the SGBN003 is the bezel... everything else is different . Even though I get why people compare it to an exp2, I think this watch can be judged on its own.

39mm is such a spot on size for a watch like this. Most sports GS are gigantic so this is a rare gift for those of us with human wrists. I'd snag one in blue if I didn't already have a Polar 16570 for travel duty.

Congratulations. My SBGT235 with 9F Quartz gets pretty much daily wear. Always ready to go and look fine with most anything, clotheswise.
