Where is it cheaper to buy?

Hi everyone. I just registered today since I'm about to purchase a new Rolex in the near future. A friend recommended this forum and you guys are great, so far I am learning a lot.

I just want to ask where it is cheap to buy a new, (of course, authentic) Rolex watch? Would it be cheaper to buy in the US or Hong Kong? I am about to travel to these locations in a few days so would really appreciate your help. Any names of stores in HK or LA would be much appreciated.

Mods, please move my thread if I posted in the wrong place.

Thanks in advance!!

It of course depends on the model and availability. What did you have in mind?

HK is usually better than US in terms of pricing. And, you pay no sales taxes. But, as others have mentioned, check your customs fees into your country. I have heard that Singapore is also good, but I did not check the prices while I was there last week.

try this one out first.
It seems like the models you are going to buy are easy to find out there.

However since you are based in Asia I will definately suggest Singapore where you can get a good discound plus -7% VAT back when you leave the country. ;-D

Do not confuse PRICE with COST! Getting something cheaply priced may mean you buy gray market, unwarrantied, or items with issues! That is the COST. Find a dealer and when you trust them, then that ought to be your source. You may pay a higher PRICE but the overall COST will be less!

There is no tax in HK. In general you will get up to 8% discount on most Rolex models. However on certain you will even pay a premimum.

If you go to www.swissluxury.com and look at there prices after the discount on the wire transfer, you can expect the same prices in HK after the conversion rate.

Hope this helps.

But TR mentioned in another post that he was getting 23% discount on a sub.
Is the MSRP in Indonesia similar to that in the US?

I will tell you guys a funny storry about Europe that you can check out on the web. Some countries in Europe Denmark in particular has a very heigh V.A.T 25% so the manufactures like Rolex sell to the country at a better price because the V.A.T is so high. When you leave the Rolex shop get a Customs form and they will refund your 25% when you leave the country. I am sure that deals can be made there even though on the surface it looks expensive with 25% back at the airport things look at little difference

Rolexshirts has a very valid point.

I am a US citizen currently living/working in the UK and I purchased my SD for £3280 last April and received a VAT receipt from the AD. When I returned to the US two weeks after the purchase, I received a nice 17.5% VAT refrund on the purchase price - approximately $1000USD off the retail price from an AD.

If you plan a trip to Europe, plan on shopping for your new Rollie!! Especially since the dollar is getting stonger!!

Generally the rule of thumb is if you are wearing one on your wrist while travelling customs is not an issue in most countries. But if you are carrying it in your checked in luggage it is customs payable. That said - obviously you cant be wearing 10 rolexes on your hand.

Did you receive the refund upon exiting the customs from UK or while you were back in US? Thanks for the details as I am planning on buying one from UK as well?
I wonder if the duty free version in Heatrow will be a better option?

Thanks for the input
