What? You would let watches stop you from getting your Z06, Harley and Boat? In the grand scheme of all those things a watch or two is quite insignificant. Why would you let watches stop you from getting the things you want anyway? Compared to the price of a nice boat, then the price of a Rolex or two is next to nothing.

Thank you, CJ!

That's the most well-kept and well-run house in all of New Mexico.

Nonetheless, I bowled the worst series today that I've bowled in that house in a very long time. Sometimes, it's just hard to get one's head and gluteus maximus wired together.

Yep, several times. And continue to ignore it!!

The thing is, I used to waste money on flash cars and changed them every 6-12 months. I say I wasted money because of the rapid depreciation. When I started spending money on watches, I had to change my approach to cars as I only have so much money available for luxury purchases.

My watch collection that I’ve amassed over the last ten years, whilst arguably excessive, is worth more than I paid for it. Compare that to the chunky six figure depreciation hit I took on cars the previous ten years!!

I still drive nice cars, I just don’t change them as often and they are nice rather than flash. And as I get older, this suits me just fine.

It amuses me a little... loads of people on here hate the idea of paying a few thousand over MRSP for a watch, and yet I bet many of them buy over-spec’d new cars and lose several thousands. It’s the same as those of us that worry about future watch value, whilst at the same time fully accepting car depreciation. It’s a mind-set thing.

Sorry, gone off-topic. My spend limit when I started was max £5k for a single watch, and no more that £10k in total. I now have a Patek 5990, AP Diver, two AP Royal Oaks, a WG Daytona, a Sea Dweller, a Pepsi, a Reverso, and a Speedy. Oops!!

I set a spend limit for myself on a yearly basis for "luxury" purchases. These are the last things that go into my yearly plan after everything else is taken care of. This limit does change from year to year and may even change during the year, business depending etc..
I am sure we all wish for unlimited spending cash and congrats to the ones who have it but I have not got there yet.

I tend to live pretty frugally, so if there's a watch I really want, I don't set any kind of artificial spending limits on it. I know if I can afford it or not.

THIS! I said, once I had my SubC, my first and only, I'd be good 4ever. First post about it on here I knew I was wrong. I'm hoping 1 or 2 more pieces in my life at least. I'm not wealthy and I'm disabled so "working hard" for it will take time. Wife mentioned 40th bday, that's 3 years! Maybe I should get on a list for a Daytona lol!

Anyway, I'd love the 2-tone and blue sub for my UofM graduation and I'd like an Explorer I mkII for a "field watch" or understated look.

In the meantime, I'm very grateful for the SubC and how I got it AND that I only waited a month at an AD with no relationship :) TRF DOES NOT HELP THE ITCH LOL!

I don't have a set limit, its more of a comfort factor. If I don't "feel" the impact financially, then I can get comfortable spending the $$$. I also often times justify getting something new by letting one go. But, once the new one comes in and I didn't "feel" any financial impact, I just usually decide to keep the one I was going to sell, hahaha.

Most people have a finite amount of disposable income. I've already been through my R1 phase in life. Watches would never inhibit me from spending on other things I truly needed or desired. But if i was forced to choose say between a Z06 or 4 nice watches and world travel with my family, I'd choose the latter. This thread was simply meant to be a discussion on financial choices and whether other TRF memebers were choosing watches over other material goods, services, or experiences.

For me there will always be some kind of limit but it is hopefully moving up with additional financial means.

I also have a limit in number, I get uneasy when I come up to 8 watches. 5 watches is probably my ideal number. At first I thought I wanted to be a 'collector' but I now know that as with other things, I am not a collector. I have tried to collect a few things before but it has never been my thing really. Once I get a better version of something I rarely look at the others and I do not like excessive hoarding.

I have limits, but they are easily ignored when an opportunity (or a whim) appears.

I have an account that I have separate money in. I borrow against myself and pay myself back. The only limit I have is how much I pay in to that account and how much I repay that account. I am disciplined so it works for me.

My limit is whatever I could afford. Unfortunately, won't be much because I think its time for a new car.

I think one of the rules for gathering wealth is to spend a lot less than you make and put that money to work generating more money.

At this point, I could buy a very expensive watch, but i find am just as happy with a more modest Rolex.

My philosophy works for me. It probably doesn’t work for most people. I know a lot of people who spend every cent (and more) they earn. They don’t seem very happy.

I always play in the <$10K space...That is what I feel comfortably spending on a watch. Could I spend more? Sure, but these are expensive toys and I'm a grown man. It doesnt feel responsible to me and my family to spend more than that, given economic standing: poor working man.

I would like a CHNR but with the recent price increase it is now just under £12k and that is pushing my boundaries of what is acceptable to buy.

For the same money I could pick up a GMT from another brand and have a large chunk of money left over for a nice holiday.

But would I be happy, in some respects the waiting time for any popular Rolex is good thinking time, do I really need this amount of money on a watch?

My hobby is purely an affair of the heart and perfection is an unattainable goal anyway, so I'm taking the easy, non-anxiety-ridden route and just enjoying what I have and picking a few nice pieces along the way.

A very nice piece I acquired not long ago for a mere song.

This sounds like a great way to live! Beautiful watch.

People also finance cars and end up paying interest on something losing value. But I’ll admit the utility of a vehicle is, to most, much more valuable than a watch.

I didn't get to be a Billionare by wasting money, so I set myself a limit of only spending 1 hours pay on a watch.

I’ve set a $5K incremental cash spend limit. Anything more than that I will liquidate a piece/pieces from my collection to cover the additional cost. It keeps my collection at a reasonable size, keeps net-new cash outlays at an acceptable level, and having to part with an existing piece forces me to pause and helps to temper impulsive spending.
