Personally I don’t like anything yg or two tone. I recommend you go with what you like.

I'll take a CHNR over a Sub any time of the day, and it's not even close.

Hey all, thanks so much for all of the help everyone provided me. I took the perspectives raised here, along with my own, to my AD today.

He was very open and honest with me. He didn't pressure me. We talked for 45 minutes about all things Rolex before looking at the watch. He told me to only buy it if I love it.

When I tried it on again today, I still felt it was a stunner. It suited me very well, more than a sub would. To be honest, the only other Rolex I've looked in at awe has been the white dial Daytona. As much as I'd like a sub, Hulk, Pepsi or batman: I'm just in it for the hype with those watches, I don't find them particularly good looking. So with all that being said. I followed my heart and made the purchase.

This was a roller coaster of an experience filled with confusion, but for my first Rolex I wouldn't want it any other way. I'm now looking back on it all with a smile, what an experience. I think she's a beauty and I'm proud to have her on my wrist. Thank you all again for your help and I look to be an active member on this forum!

Amazing choice! Congratulations. We are all eagerly awaiting those pictures.

I'm personally not a fan of TT watches except a 5980AR. If it comes to relationship building I'd take it and then ask them if they can keep me in mind for a SS.

It'll probably be another year before they call you.

PS. Isnt the rootbeer the full rosegold? I think people have mixed the term with the two tone and full RG

If you already fell in love with the Rootbeer, I think you should get it. Don't complicate it.
Keep it simple. Whats important is your feelings about the watch.

BTW: the Rootbeer is a beautiful watch. I enjoy wearing mine. Its a big part of my collection. You are very lucky the AD offered you this watch as a first Rolex.

As a beginner, I would not get something in brown if there is any chance it will be your only Rolex. I would start with something in black because it goes with everything.

Congrats stunning watch. I have both the Rootbeer and the sub and I much prefer the Rootbeer!

In fact I prefer it over both the Blro and Blnr.

You need to resize the image. The warning should tell you the maximum size and dimensions. Keep shrinking it until it fits.

PITA? Yes. But doable.

Before I got the Root Beer, both Blro, and Blnr were on my list. When I got the Chnr I scratched the Blnr from the list, and now I don't even want the Blro. They will not add anything cos I already have a better looking GMT.

I feel the same way. I feel my next watch, should I ever have the opportunity, would be SS Daytona

If you want to spend the extra money, then sure. You have to want to wear the piece. It is important to establish a relationship through spending with an AD, so if the Root Beer is the piece that gets you started (you can flip it), then go for it. See below in red:

1) is the root beer a more respected watch than the submariner?
Way more unique. Plain black subs are ubiquitous.

2) is the root beer worth the extra money? (Root beer = 17.5k CAD, submariner = 10.5k)
"Worth" is your perception of value if you're going to wear it. For resale purposes, no, you will not "make" more on a Rootbeer than a new sub.

3) is the root beer more likely to appreciate, or at least hold its value, in comparison to the sub-mariner?
This is speculative; however, because it is not a pure SS, personally, I believe it will depreciate more than a sub will.

4) Is the root beer a difficult watch to get? Will I be kicking myself if I don't jump on this opportunity now?
Not crazy difficult. Many ADs have received them in late Dec. '19 and early Jan. '20 shipments.

It sounds like you're really looking for something more rare, something that will be valuable in the future. I think holding off on the Rootbeer until you can get a black sub, or buying a black sub and flipping it when you can to get something you really want...

I’m confused:

“ As much as I'd like a sub, Hulk, Pepsi or batman: I'm just in it for the hype with those watches, I don't find them particularly good looking.”

Why buy if you don’t like them?
