Would that wear down the movement prematurely though if you were winding it up every night?

One of the only photos that actually shows the beauty of this watch and it's blue dial. Congrats.

Winding up a watch every night is not what I suggested but the question is worth some further explanation.

First, for the point I made earlier - I was saying if you weren’t going to wear an annual calendar watch for a spell that an owner should wind it nightly to avoid having to reset the annual calendar. Now (for me) a watch winder is a better solution but the member asking his question already said he didn’t want one of those. So it would only be winding it maybe 100 times a year. The only wear and tear would be to the crown but those are robust - designed to last a lifetime until knocked against something.

Now about your movement question, winding a watch has no impact on the movement. The movement uses the power contained in the mainspring to operate. There is no direct connection to the winding mechanism on a modern watch. Think of winding a watch like the effect the rotor has - the perpetual automatic rotation keeps the mainspring “topped up” without affecting the movement.

Remember that movements all wear at different rates and are designed to last a lifetime if they are serviced regularly. Running is their raison d'être. Somewhere along the line here in WIS-dom the concept of allowing a movement to do its job has become debatable.

My last point is really tangential but deserves a moment of your time.

The whole point of an annual calendar complication is to avoid resetting the date every so often. They are an elegant solution to a minor inconvenience. Owners should understand that this means keeping it running for it to do its job.

Also doesn’t need winding every night - the cal. 9001 has a 72hr power reserve so every 2-3 days should be sufficient
