Ok this might be a stupid question but how does one decern the difference between the 5711/1A & 1/P? Is it just the weight of the watches? Or the dial colors are slightly different hue?

Interesting model designations.
![]() As I understand it the original 2012 platinum 5711 piece is designated 5711/1P-010. The 40th version of the platinum 5711 is designated 5711/1P-001. The difference between the two watches simply being the dial variation designation 010 for the original and 001 for the 40th version - just as the blue face 5711/1A is 5711/1A-010 and the white face is 5711/1A-011. What is interesting is that from my limited understanding of Patek the 001 version would normally appear before the 010 version. For instance the 5131R in 2015 was 5131R-001, in 2016 it was 5131R-010 and in 2017 it is 5131R-011 - each version receiving an updated city dial. Indeed checking the model designation of the 2006 introduction of 5711/1A shows it was designated 5711/1A-001 and I believe had a slightly different blue dial colour compared to the current version - the current blue dial being designated 010. So was the 40th model dial designation of 001 actually reserved before the original 2012 platinum model 010 was introduced? |

Dial colour is different (much brighter blue) and there is a white gold border around date window. Diamond set in case at 6 o'clock (as per all platinum PP's) and PP logo is on a flat area of dial.

Thierry Stern has also mentioned on video interviews that they plan for new models several years in advance. The fact that they produced 700 platinum Nautilus cases and bracelets and delivered them to ADs in a fairly reasonable time period tells me they have been in production for several years now. Platinum is supposed to be a more difficult material to work with than gold and SS during the manufacturing process. Even the 175th Anniversary pieces were designed and planned for well in advance. Their delivery to ADs were in stages over a time period of over 1 year though. |
