The meteorite dial is a bit of a "Marmite'' proposition - you either love it or hate it.

If you fall in the former camp and have the funds, then don't hesitate.

The Meteorite dial looks tacky. I give it a thumbs down. People used to think that orange leisure suits looked great, too. They were wrong. They will be wrong in thinking this dial looks great in a few years.

I say skip it.

That dial has been around for decades, and has looked incredible the entire time.

I would go for it and unload the CHNR and BLRO.

A unique piece....if you don’t really love it and you are asking...there’s your answer.

If you can swing it for a short time frame I would buy it and work it in with the current collection and see what sticks. You will know and then whatever is redundant can be sold or traded. This watch is hard to get, so get it.

Not a big fan of that reference but thanks for your suggestion.

That way you would still have a BLRO in the collection, albeit a unique one
That is what I was thinking!

I was also offered the GMT meteorite and the meteorite looked out-of-place with the bezel, to me!! But, as others have stated, only you will know as soon as you put it on your wrist. If you hesitate for a second, pass! It's an expensive piece - even if you can afford it. Don't buy it just because it's rare or a stranger says to "buy it!" (with all due respect to my fellow TRF'ers).
You're looking for advice here, only YOU will be the best advisor (maybe your wife too!!) if it's for you or not. And if the GMT does it for you, wear it in good health always!

Good luck!
Thanks for your insight. Affording it is not an issue and my collection is at 19. Have considered pairing it down to more precious metals and a few SS.

It is not at the AD yet but here is a pic of my collection. The BLNR in this pic has been changed to the jubilee version.

I wouldn't think twice about getting it. With 19 watches in your collection, I'm sure you wouldn't even feel having to move a watch or two. As to which ones...well, once you get it into the rotation, I'm pretty sure you'll know.

Good luck and let us know what you decide.

I do like it, have had it in the back of my mind but really haven’t considered adding a watch as life has me busy and I have been happy with what I have. The call came out of the blue. I hear from the AD from time to time.

You have my favorite version of the Smurf - love the understated elegance of the diamond hour markers.

That said - a meteorite GMT. I'd sell all of your current GMT's and go for it. It would add to your collection - you have your fair share of black dial watches - this is something different and it's incredible. if you are partial to those pieces start looking at other options to cull the herd a bite - the Yachtmaster, TT Daytona, OysterQuartz...

TT Daytona and OQ are untouchable as they were given to me by my wife and father respectively.

I had the same opportunity for this piece. Wasn’t really shopping for it. I do love the Rolex GMT lineup, but it isn’t my favorite GMT watch...but i was offered. I actually looked at the blue vs the meteorite dial, and chose the blue for a PM Rolex gmt. But to be honest...none of my Rolex GMT’s are getting any wrist time. (Maybe time to move ‘em)
Reasons....I think it’s a cool piece, definitely rare, (but so is the blue at this point) but it just didn’t fit this reference as nicely as blue or black dial IMO. I think you have to really be a fan of meteorite dials to really love this one. So my main reasons for choosing blue/black over meteorite is personal aesthetics choice and longevity of style. I prefer the classic look of the blue or black dials vs a meteorite dial...it’s just not my style, and long term I feel it’s a very niche piece.

I personally would get rid of the BLRO and pick up the WG GMT. The Pepsi is a dime a dozen and the meteorite GMT is more unique and rare.

Im not a fan of the meteorite dial especially on a Gmt, it's too white and confuses the dial to me, takes away more then it gives. It works better on a platinum DD40 but then you have to like diamond baguette markers. Hard pass for me. I'd actually like to see it on a WG DD40 with romans but that's not happening.

This is a special piece. I would sell SS BLRO plus one or two others I don’t wear often. Not too many opportunities to get this one at MSRP.
