Opinions on a preowned 04-05 Sub Date versus new Tudor
About to pull the trigger on the Sub, but the Pelagos and Black Bay divers have gotten my attention.
Tudor is is less expensive and it’s new, but I keep going back to, it’s not a Rolex. Curious what you guys think. |

Trust your gut. It's not a Rolex in the long term. And I like the new tudors. But I consider that fashionable vs long term staying power, esp with the case size.

If you want a Rolex, buy a Rolex. Otherwise you will wish you had.

04 Sub is a classic, beautiful piece.
Black Bay Tudors have had movement issues for date versions. |

First of all, take the 'less expensive' out of the equation. You're about to make as an irrational purchase as there is to make, i.e., spending thousands of dollars on a watch, so don't start getting rational now.
Now you're left with one thing, and that's to get what you like. Try them all on your wrist and see what brings a smile to your face. You'll know. |

Easy.. get both if you can. If not, get one you really like first and save up for the other (nothing to do with brands and nothing to do with prices, just the ones you really like).

When you are in the situation where it's Rolex vs _______. Choose Rolex.
It's what you really want and if you buy something else as an alternate, it's a waste of money. The only exception to this is if the it was Rolex v Patek or Rolex v AP. Then some further evaluation is needed. But if it's Rolex vs "the other guys", the choice is Rolex. |

Get the SUB
I was in your place a while ago - I ended up going for the Tudor and now after one year and a half I'm searching for an older Sub |

Never compromise. If you want a Rolex, get a Rolex.
That being said, the Tudor Black Bay and Pelagos are fantastic dive watches. Tudor quality is exceptional at its price point. Get it if only if you actually want a Tudor. |

Buy the Sub.Nothing against Tudor watches (I like the Pelagos), but you have to answer the question "Do I want a Rolex, and nothing else?". I've been there. I bought two "lesser" watches before I bought my 14060, although I really wanted a Rolex Sub...the famous "Rolex itch"!I wasn't happy until I bought the Sub and sold the other watches. Haven't regretted if for one second in 24 years!

Buy the Rolex Sub, you will never be truly happy with a Tudor stand in model.
I've been in the same position and made that mistake of buying a compromise watch because its new, its half the price etc etc. |

Get a rolex and cough out those $$$$. After that, it'll be cheaper/easier to get a Tudor or swap with extra cash.
At least you are a brave wise man for not pulling the trigger at the AD. I usually get crazy at the AD when I try out the watches and end up with a completely third option/ brand... |
