OP39 or ExII 16570
Looking to purchase my first luxury, after quite a bit of lurking on the threads here.
Narrowed it down to an Explorer II 16570 with black dial or an OP39 with a black dial. Work in a moderately professional environment requiring a suit 1-2x per week. Any thoughts? |

Explorer 1. I own a Polar 16570 and the white OP39; the 16570 lacks the modern bracelet and the OP gets (dare I say) boring (and also lacks the Easylink), but the Exp 1 is a forever keeper for me. And you’re talking black dial watches, so i’m surprised the Exp1 isn’t in the mix.

OP39, for me works well with a suit, or casual wear. It would be my go to.
Explorer works as well, I feel that the OP is just on the more dressy side. Any thoughts on the Explorer I? |

Can’t go wrong with either. I’d provably for the explorer though.

I've owned both the black dialed 16570 and the black OP39.
I couldn't warm up to the EX2 and sold it within a month of buying it. I've had my black 114300 since this past June and I still look forward to wearing it. My feelings about these watches are based on aesthetics. The EX2 is arguably more useful having both the date and dual time complication |

Explorer II would get my vote. Happy hunting.

The 16570 is a classic piece, 12.2 mm thick so it fits under a cuff. Serves a two time zone function, and has a date window. It's a sport piece, it's all brushed steel, but can be dressed up. OP 39 is a nice watch but has no date and only the time function. The 16570 has an older bracelet, it's an older watch made from 1989 to 2011, while the OP39 is a newer design. Need to look around for excellent condition 16570 or buy one and do some servicing or refurbishing. The OP39 released in 2015 has a newer movement, newer bracelet, you could buy a preowned piece still under warranty. If not prepared to service a piece, then get the newer OP39. If you want vintage five digit then get the ExplorerII.

Both good choices. I'd choose the Expll. It's clean and interesting with two complications while still under the radar, not flashy and fits under a suit just as well. Fun and casual weekend piece too. Best of both worlds to me.

As mentioned above, I’d take an Explorer over these 2. Good luck with your choice.

OP39 or ExII 16570
Milgauss is unloved by many.
YM2 is hard to wear. It’s a showy watch but an ugly showy watch Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I just got done saying this on the other thread... definitely a little more dressy I feel... It might also be because my OP is so shiny and new

Explorer II hands down. Date, GMT function. The OP is a nice watch but the 16570 is one of the all time best models Rolex ever made. Works with everything. I’ve even worn mine with a tux.

Exp2 of your choices, but as others have mentioned, the 214270 is probably a good in between of the two.

I personally think the OP39 is plain and you might get sick of it soon.
While the 16570 does not blow the doors off......in one sense it has a classic look, and the other sense it has a sporty look with the red hand, larger hour markers, bezel. I vote for the a good condition polar 16570. |

If it’s your first, and a one and only...find the best example Exp and go for that. As others have said, can dress with most anything, two time zone capable, and a date. More practical/useful as a one a one and only. I really like the OP39 white dial, in a collection, but in your case...Exp

Having owned both (white dial OP39) and Polar 16570 I think the OP39 is the far more dressier piece. I also got bored with it, sold it and have no desire to own another in any color.
Having the 16570 I don't think it is dressy at all but I absolutely love it. I have an F series so it has the quirky font spacing, quirky GMT hand movement when adjusting (still accurate +4 s/d), markers are starting to patina and the clinky bracelet (not when worn). Again, love it. With all that.. the OP39 certainly goes better with a suit. Just my opinion of course. Good luck with what you decide. |
