First time Rolex buyer, 1970 OP Date 1500 incoming!

Brand new to Rolex. Have one coming in, a birth-year 1970 Oyster Perpetual Date 1500 Silver on an oyster strap - recent service from RSC so not original). I am getting it as a memento of my 50th birthday and some business milestones. Plan on it being an every day wear watch.

I am trying to get to 10 posts so I can post pictures when the watch arrives which should be tomorrow or Friday.

Thanks for being such a great resource

I think you can upload photos using the attachment manager without 10 posts. They just have to be sized correctly.

Thanks! As I said I am going to try to get responses in to get to 10 posts for pics as I have seen the posts about "if no wrist picture it didn't happen" -lol!

I figured if you make it to 50 with only one wife and no time in jail that is a pretty good accomplishment!

On the business, I started a small 'side hustle' just about 5 years ago. Has grown and just hit a total sales to date of $300K at just over 50% net margins. Lot of long nights made that happen so I wanted something to commemorate the event.

I chose the 1500 for a number of reasons. In no particular order:

1) I am a fan of mid century design and this watch has MCM elements!
2) I wanted a birth year watch
3) Cost is/was a factor
4) 34mm is big enough for me! I think the larger watches seem too big on most people (this is my opinion only!)
5) the oyster band with the silver dial and smooth bezel is so elegant yet understated as to not draw attention. I am buying this for me, not for others to see me wearing it.
6) This is going to be an every day wear watch so I was not looking for a true classic with tons of patina, but did want a recently serviced watch (preferably by RSC - which this one was)

By the way, before this watch I have not bought a watch for myself that cost over $30! So quite the upgrade!

Thanks so much for letting me know! I will have to play with it to make sure I get the right size. Starting to get the jitters about it getting here in less than 24 hours! (maybe!)

Love the 1500, got this in 1978 new when I was 16. I wore it every day from 78’ until 2004. I changed out the original silver dial and added a jubilee bracelet in 1984. I thought I lost the oyster band and found it six months ago and it put it back on. Still runs and looks great!

Congrats on your 50th birthday and your first Rolex!!

Enjoy your new timepiece!!

Thanks to everyone for your well wishes! I have it on now and have it on every day since I got it. It has a full service at RSC in July 2019 but I am still taking it off when it could get wet. Almost for sure it would not be a problem but why risk it! Still loving it!

Congrats and fantastic, I'm a 1970 birth year too, .. the oldest in our collection is a 1977 (my wifes DJ)

One day I might stumble on a 70 Sub, but I too worry about using it as a tool and not a safe queen.
