Servicing your rolex

Do you service your Rolex at all, if so how often would you get it serviced? I have watches that I have owned for 10yrs or longer with never servicing them. They run fine.

I only service when the watch isn’t keeping time. Don’t think it’s necessary to do the suggested 3-5 year service intervals Rolex recommends.

I've got a GMT born in 1995 that's never been serviced and keeps perfect time. Although some other Rolex's in the collection from the 80's don't run so hot but haven't seen a service in decades so it's surprising they run at all.

My watches were purchased in 07,08,09 and run fine. Don’t think I will be servicing them anytime soon

I am not worried, just seeing if anyone services their watches on regular basis.

Most will run for 10+ years with no problem. I wouldn't trust the seals after that long though.

Bluesy bought in 1999 and sent it to Dallas two months ago, came back looking brand new and working perfectly. I just figured it was time and was running slightly slower!

You’ll generally see two schools of thought here.

1. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
2. Routine service intervals to prevent damage to the movement.

I’m in camp #1 but I don’t use my watches for diving etc., they lead a pretty pedestrian life.

When I have an issue that is when I service a watch.

That's a big thing to remember. You see people bragging how their watch hasn't been serviced in twenty years and runs fine, and they "do everything" in it, and I think, "If that includes swimming or showering, this won't end well."

A seal has to degrade a lot for a 300m (more, really) watch to take in water in a swimming pool, but that's still a potentially expensive lesson. At the very least, folks should be getting annual pressure checks.

I'm in the "take care of it and it will take care of you" camp with watches and my vehicles. I'm not extreme or worried about either device but for what I pay for my watches it's worth a service by Rik every 5 years or so.

My 14060, bought new in 1996, has been serviced twice in-house by my Rolex AD, in 2009 and just last summer. Before the second service it was starting to run very slow and didn't seem to be holding its power reserve. They replaced the main spring. It runs fantastic now! Apart from servicing I have it pressure tested once a year. Stay at home if you can and do keep healthy!!

After 10 years the movement may still run fine but waterproofness will be compromised with 10 year old seals and crystal gasket.

..Guess it might be time to service the 'oldies' from the '80's,.. if so inclined. Just sayin'

I own a 14060m from 2004 and it runs within +3 to 5 seconds per day and has not been services yet. When I called each RSC, they said that I should send it in when the watch doesn't keep good time (outside of specs).

My 2002 Bluesy went in after 17 years in November. For me it was about the gaskets and internal lubrication as I spend a lot of time in and around salt water...so for me it will be every 15 years or so...

I bought my DJ new in 2003 and sent it to my AD for its first service last August. It wasn’t having any issues. I just felt it was time.

I bought my 16800 in 1985. It has been serviced 2 times. First time in 2000 when the date wheel paint started to flake off. Second time in 2018 just because I figured 18 years was long enough. Both times by independent, highly skilled, watchmakers.

The difference in cost between servicing and repair(*) is not much. Don’t service until you suspect the performance is suspicious.

*minor repair like broken spring coil, broken crown stem etc.

Just had my everyday Rolex a GMT Master 16750 (1982) serviced, previous service was over ten years ago. Was keeping perfect time but its reserve was less than six hours. This was its third service in 38 years. For the cost of a service every ten years or so it is not excessive.
I have a TT Blue Sub 2006, keeps excellent time but as its not worn often has never been serviced, thinking about it maybe its now time to get it done?
