When platinum sells for $700/oz and gold sells for $1700/oz, why is a platinum DD worth twice as much as a gold version? Intrinsically, platinum is priced closer to stainless steel than to gold. Seems like both the Platona and the 5711 sell for unreasonably high prices which are based on scarcity and demand.

You’re not buying a platona for the weight of platinum though, go and buy a platinum bar if that’s what you want. You’re buying a ceramic Daytona rolex watch with a unique configuration, which so happens to be encased in platinum.

Another DD vote, had a 5711 on order w Tiffany's. Overhyped, underwhelming, and so annoyingly thin. Nothing special.

2 very different watches.
As an owner of both I would say DD. The 5711 feels very fragile in comparison to the DD.
